The First Meeting of the Unofficial Unemployed Broadcast Cryers Club

Greetings to all!

CR Big Band here. Thinly veiled - I am Cary Richards, formerly of KAAM and still a big band leader.

I am sending out the invitation to join me for the first monthly meeting of the Unofficial Unemployed Broadcast Cryers Club.

The UUBCC's first get together will be Friday, August 21st at 6:00 PM at On the Border in Plano (Outside on the veranda, Plano Parkway and Hwy 75 (Central Expwy).

There are no dues. Membership is open to anyone who has worked in broadcasting who was (or ever has been) fired, laid off, let go, downsized, etc. from radio (OK - I'll open it up to TV personalities as well).

As we're unemployed - it's strictly dutch. I'll order a pitcher of Margaritas and the first plate of fajita nachos and wait to see if anyone shows up.

And if no one else shows up - more for me. But it could be cathartic for us all!

If you know for sure you'll be attending - let me know at [email protected] so I can tell OTB how many of us to expect.

Drinks anyone?

Well, there goes that DFW Media Lunch Bunch I was going to do later this month!! Tell ya what, let's see how Cary's event goes and maybe we can merge interests later, or do something each month instead of quarterly. Any excuse to party and hang out with friends is OK by me!

So YES, count me in. How many resume copies should I bring? You will have hiring representatives there from all the top radio groups in town who are ready to talk about MY future...right? (remember those useless annual gatherings at the Galleria Hotel, just to give station owners something pretty to put on their required EEOC reports?)

And isn't OTB at Central and 15th St, next to Spaghetti Warehouse, or am I mixing this up with something else?

Yes, you are correct, sir. In my imbibuous haze I forgot that it is indeed 15th across from Collin Creek Mall directly across from Eisstein's Bros bagels.

Well knock one or three back for me. I'm a bit out of town, not even the stimulus package can afford me the opportunity to hop a plane to come drink with ya! Sounds like fun though, beers, lies, complaints, beer, complaints, caught in a lie and so much more beer that no one cares!

Call a taxi!

Let me suggest something here...Yeah, I know most of you have aliases, and wish to protect that. Nobody's going to ask you to "unmask" yourself. Just show up and let's have some fun. Back in 2001, I put together a meet-up of Radio-Info posters, and a whopping 4 of us showed. One guy went by his alias and never mentioned his real name. So play it however you want, but at least come and hang out.

I'm desperantly trying to hide my secret identity.

A word from the first charter member of the UUBCC, Cary Richards -

How about we all wear brown paper bags over our head(s)? That way identities will remain secret.

Friday at 6, I will be easy to find. I'll be the rather large guy in the red, white and blue striped shirt and blue jeans. If you are color-blind and have apprehensions of still be able to recognize me, go to my website at caryrichards.com.

I still look like that pic - sort of.

Drinks, anyone?

To Thunderradio -

Great regrets that you will be unable to attend Friday for I was going to nominate you for Sergeant-At-Arms! Oh well...

Depending on how this one goes, I thought we might plan the second get together in September... I was thinking the 25th, R U free?

One for my baby (one for the road)

Last call for the get-together an hour from now. I'm coming all the way from Forney and I've been looking forward to it all week. Hope to see as many of my broadcast colleagues as possible!

Hope to see you there . full report over the weekend...

Cheers!
