The FOX 26 News at 5:00 and 5:30 (Houston)

Starts today, and I am glad b/c they have rammed those promos down our throats and the same on My 20....glad those "It's Your Time" promos are over starting today..................

I thought it was poor. Too much fluff and filler. I want news, weather, and sports when I get home from work...Not what a panel of amateurs think about current events. I like Dr. Jim and the weather department at Fox 26 but the rest of it was garbage. Also, what's up with traffic...the first break said travel times coming up in the next segment...what if I am leaving NOW? How does this help? Even Ch. 2 has nothing to worry about...

*rant off*

They'll be back to the same old Simpsons re-runs sooner than you think! They don't stand a chance against their competitors.

No, they will stick with it. They will figure it out eventually. No one gave them a chance, when they expanded the AM News Block, and they are now #2, and tied for #1 in some time periods. They do have a lot to tweak. It was not good yesterday. It was very boring. They tried to hard to do too much. Look, just report the damn news all ready. Quit trying to do all these different franchise pieces. Just do the news like you do in the morning and at 9pm (not the noon, it's a train wreck), and you will be fine.

The Simpsons will not return. Even if the ratings are a quarter of what The Simpsons were getting, they will still make more money in this time period. Local News sells.

Snoman is absolutely correct: News sells. Fox will stick with this no matter what. My guess is you'll soon see a 10pm newscast on Fox 26 as well. A 6pm newscast is also possible. Fox's owned and operated stations have been on a major expansion in the past few years. Adding 10pm (or 11pm on east and west coast) was the first big push. Now they're putting early evening shows on stations that didn't have them. Fox is not going to back off of this timeslot. They'll find a way to make it work. Besides, the added expense of putting on extra news is probably a little less than the cost of syndicated programming, but with the added benefit that you get to sell all of the ad time.

They might have to retool the time slots. The 5:30 newscast should be the shortened cast similar to the noon newscast and emphasize local stories to provide an alternative to the national network newscasts. The hour long 6:00 show will be the full newscast (w/addition of national news, business report and sports to provide an alternative to ABC 13 (it would be great if there was a choice). The 6:00 (or even the 5:30) show could be a great lead-in to network programming at 7:00.

I'm watching it right now. They didn't start the 5:00 news on time, maybe around two minutes late.

If you are comparing their start time to KTRK, KPRC, & KHOU, it does start later. They all start the News around 4:56-4:57 pm, instead of 5pm. To get more time and content in. I believe KRIV starts their around 4:59pm.
