The future of Clear Channel on the Mississippi Coast

Anyone else curious to see what ultimately happens with CC's Biloxi cluster?

I realize Biloxi wasn't on the "fire sale" list, but the word I am hearing is that many other markets are also for sale if the price is right.

I'm sure Triad/MS Media would love to grab some of those sticks. 93.7 & 99.1 are prime signals, both in terms of ratings and coverage. Or if Dowdy were to grab 99.1, they could eliminate their strongest competitor.

My gut says CC won't sell this market. It's strategically located between Mobile/Pensacola and New Orleans, both of which are home to strong local CC clusters. Plus, the Coast is a growth market and may be Top 100 within 10 years (bring on those condos and casinos!)

But who knows? With CC restructuring and selling over 1/3 of their stations, anything is possible.

I'd have to say that you're mistaken about CC not selling the Biloxi cluster. Based on my info (I'm a former CC employee) I've heard that everything below market 100 is GONE from CC's holdings. With the sell of CC as a company, I'm betting even the name "Clear Channel" will change this time next year!
For all of you that wished for the demise of CC, ya got your wish. For everyone that lost your gig because of the ownership changes, man I'm sorry! I hope you land another gig soon! What's that old Cinderella song?..."Don't know what you got till it's gone" :-\

They didn't say every cluster below market 100. They had a list that was a part of the SEC filings, and Biloxi/Gulfport was NOT on it. Technically, Biloxi is not even owned by CC. Look it up.

YES THE BILOXI CLUSTER IS STILL OWNED BY CC.

They are not on the chopping block because the billing for the cluster is better than any CC station along the coast.

Technically Dumb radio guy is right. Clear Channel in name doesn't own the 1200+ stations.. I forgot how many by the clear channel name... They do own the sister companies like CC licenses, Citicasters, and Capstar Tx among others if I remember.

But yes there was a list and most of Mississippi was for sale except the Gulf Coast and Jackson.... Tupelo,Meridian, and Hattiesburg/Laurel are up for sale

The Biloxi market is owned by CC, yes there are other clusters that CC runs but we are owned and operated by CC.

CC might have to sell more stations than they wish due to their wicked and incompetent management.

New Orleans might be for sale before other top 100 cities because it is extremely hard to live, work or run a business there.

So sayeth Rex.

Sounds like Biloxi's economy may get worse before it gets better also. First, Harrah's announced they were putting their expansion plans on hold. Now, the Sun Herald reports today the Isle has laid off 200 workers.

WHERE DID BOB DEEVER GO AFTER HE WAS BUDGET CUT FROM THE BILOXI CC CLUSTER?

I'm surprised he wasn't let go sooner. I moved to Biloxi from Dallas for a casino gig a year and a half ago, and K99 is my favorite station. As a former jock (I was "budget cut" too), I can't stand the sound of that guy's voice. He sounds like he doesn't give a damn about his job. Hell, even a voice-tracked jock would sound better than HIM!

On a related note, is Kim Diamond on K99 the same Kim Diamond from The Twister? I swear that sounds just like her!

Just to nitpick here and clear something up..

In The Biloxi/Gulfport area, Clear Channel's stations are under the following licensee names:

Cc Licenses, LLC
and
Capstar TX Limited Partnership

Dowdy and Dowdy's stations are under the name
Jmd, Inc
and
Dowdy & Dowdy Partnership

I KNOW that Capstar is just a subsidiary of Clear Channel. Not sure about "Dowdy". Whether or not that means for sure that CC is selling THAT cluster or not...well I ain't positive! LOL But based on what I hear (and ALL of you know how THAT goes), this time next year you'll have a new signature on your pay checks! ;)

TXBIGHAT

I THINK SHE IS. I PULLED UP THE K99 WEB SITE AND SHE WAS IN DALLAS.

NO,I LIKE HER IN THE LATE AFTERNOON. THEY SHOULD HIRE BACK ROBERT JAMES, HE'S ALOT BETTER THAN BOB. OR MAYBE MOVE KIP GREGORY BACK AND INTO BOB'S OLD SHOW.WHAT DO YOU THINK? ???

On the Clear Channel I'm unsure but I think it has to do with when and whom they originally picked up the radio station from as Clear Channel itself (the parent) doesn't own the stations, It owns the other companies it bought in mergers who are the licensees... But the cluster isn't on the list it gave to the Courts so I say it ain't going anywhere right now.

For a pretty good idea on CC structure, try here:

check on page 3

On the JMD and Dowdy and Dowdy question:

Some stations are owned solely by John Dowdy, Others are owned by him and his mom Alice Dowdy (and listed under Dowdy and Dowdy)

And then we haven't even gotten into Southeastern Broadcasting (John Dowdy and his brother Charles) as well as brother Charles' holding as Northshore Broadcasting not to mention the family has other holdings in North Mississippi, Arkansas, and Georgia

I agree about Kipp, Howie. I thought he sounded great on K99 in the afternoons. I've heard him once or twice on 104.9, but it sounds like he and that other guy Steve are doing little more than reading newspaper articles... not really my idea of a "talk" show. Plus, they never take ANY phone calls, other than from someone they're interviewing. I would think there are more than a few locals with something to say about the slow pace of recovery down here.

Good for Robert! I met him at a remote a while back. That guy knows more about music than anybody I've ever met! It's a shame there isn't a community radio station in this market. Robert could do one hell of a "vintage vinyl" show!

Someone told me Robert used to do mornings on 97.9 with Chuck Edwards years ago. Is he still with Clear Channel, or did he get "budget cut" too? I don't hear him doing news anymore.
