The Future Of KHTK Without The Sacramento Kings

BossRadioDJ said:
So far, just from the indications they've given on the air, KHTK will have the Raiders, Sharks and (just maybe) the Warriors next season. That should fill the sports hole on the station.
Before the Kings moved to Sacramento, The Sacramento area used to be the Warriors Broadcast territory. I wonder if the Warriors will try to reclaim their old broadcast territory?

For the record there are only two older arenas in the league (Oracle and MSG) and two opened the same year as Arco (Milwaukee and Detroit). Arco is a dump(by NBA standards) and I don't fault the Maloofs at all for trying to get a new stadium. The days of sports owners paying for things themselves are long gone unless their name is Jerry Jones.

Opinions vary. I know people who work at ARCO and they don't share your thoughts. Sports owners who own Vegas casinos CAN afford it. It's called being cheap. Being rich, they're used to getting what they want, and when they don't they take their toys and go home, which for them is further south. Boston Garden was a dump, but it worked for the Celtics. Great teams can play anywhere and put butts in the seats. Sacramentans have been loyal and filled the ARCO seats faithfully even for a loser like the Kings. Once the shine wears off and they don't win, you may find lots of empty chairs at Honda Center.

As for KHTK, it will fill the void and move on, but the Kings leaving hurts more than a radio station, it hurts the community on many levels and effects the economy. Lots of little people lose out. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer and I'm sure there will be those who did work for KHTK that will lose out as well.

If they get their wish and move turn the present Kings Arena into a concert venue and use it every weekend at the very least.

I would think that there are many uses for an Arena like ARCO, I mean Power Balance Pavilion. From home shows to trade shows, Karate tournaments, college basketball tournaments, even gun shows and of course concerts. I believe they schedule many events there already every year. Then again, you could gut the place and build anything from offices to a warehouse, and since the Maloof's own it, they could do what they want with it. But if they own the place, why not put a little cash into it and make it a better venue instead of moving.

Then again, if it's such a dump after 23 years then just bulldoze the place and start over.
