The Georgia Radio Hall Of Fame

On this, the 85h birthday of radio in Georgia, you are invited to visit the Georgia Radio Hall Of Fame at www.grhof.com. Today, we celebrate 22 legatees; Georgia radio pioneers who are no longer living. Career Achievement (living) honorees will nominate and voted on by members. Become a lifetime member and nominate and vote for future inductees. Our innaugural induction ceremony is scheduled for this fall. The Legendary Station section of www.grhof.com has never before seen and rare photos of some of Georgia's great radio stations.

A special thanks to Kenny B of WMAC, Harley Drew of WGAC for, and Ludlow Porch for providing in depth segments on the air this morning announcing the newly greated Georgia Radio Hall Of Fame. Sara Eberhard, GRHOF Marketing & Media Coordinator is available to any station wishing to do an interview or feature. Her contact information is on the website, www.grhof.com.

The new member activity at www.grhof.com has been brisk today. Thank you to all, from across the state, who have joined our organization. By the way, one unique benefit to joining today is that your membership certificate (yes it's suitable for framing!) will bear the founding date of our organization.

The GRHOF is something that's been a long time coming. It's important that the history of radio in Georgia be told. Welcome aboard. :)

James Leslie "Pepper" Martin, 84, former sports announcer at WFOM in Marietta and 2006 inductee in the Marietta High School Hall Of Fame died. Read about Mr Martin in the GRHOF News section of The Georgia Radio Hall Of Fame at www.grhof.com.

Thanks for the link--what memories it brought back. I lived in LaGrange in the late 60's and always listened to Cuzzin Al on WDAK. He certainly didn't seem to fit a Top 40 station (!) but he must have brought in the bucks since he was there for years. I didn't realize he was the Muzak guy in real life.

I always enjoyed Jack Hurst sports on WQXI as well.

(Off topic but does anyone remember the name of the news guy at WHHY in Montgomery from back in the early 70's? I remember J. Edward Wilson from WDAK but the other escapes me.)

98Q Vidalia! That station used to get more ink than stations in Atlanta or Miami. I once heard a composite of them. They sounded much bigger than a market the size of Vidalia. Didn't Ken Curtiss from 98Q go straight from Vidalia to New York. I'm from South Florida, but this web site is one of the best radio web sites I've seen anywhere!

The Georgia Radio Hall Of Fame is not just about honoring Georgia radio's past. It's about today's radio people and stories as well. This fall, we will induct eleven (11) CURRENT
Georgia radio people in the Career Achievement category. We celebrate radio Georgia radio past, present, and future. What name comes to your mind? Join the GRHOF today and nominate that person. Voting begins June 1, 2007. www.grhof.com

I knew when I saw the list of organizers the GRHOF was a class act but they are fast and competent in managing the organization. I paid my dues on the 15th and got my certificate today. Thanks John. BTW, I used to work for you in Albany, Glad to see you're still kicking.

Rick

Thanks for the kind words. Our organization was built by a group of professional radio veterans and will prosper with the help of all who join. It's not about any one person, it's about all of us celebrating the business we love. We have exciting things planned for the future so bookmark www.grhof.com and stop by for a visit every day!

Many Georgia radio veterans will remember Art Godwin. He owned Godwin Record Distributors in Atlanta the 60's, Many dj's went there to get promo 45's for their stations. After a long illness, he died last yesterday. There will be no funeral service.
