The Harold Glunt Radio Empire Expands (OMW Original Report)

<a target="_blank" href=http://ohiomedia.blogspot.com/2005/07/breaking-news-glunt-radio-empire.html>http://ohiomedia.blogspot.com/2005/07/breaking-news-glunt-radio-empire.html</a>

Beacon Broadcasting's Harold Glunt picks up WRTK/1540 Niles (urban AC) from D & E Communications for $400,000. It was on OMW as original source reporting (!) earlier this week...and is now officially filed with the FCC. Links to the FCC application are in the above blog link... for whatever reason, Harold is doing this one as an individual.

You've gotta wonder if the owners of stations like WASN/1330 Campbell and other anemic AMs in the Youngstown/Warren market are lining up at Mr. Glunt's door...

Looking at the WRTK application, it appears Mr. Glunt doesn't believe that WLOA/Farrell PA and WGRP/Greenville PA count towards his cap in the Youngstown/Warren market. I'm not sure how the FCC treats Mercer County, PA as far as the Y-Town market goes.

And I don't know for a fact that 1330 is available, though I would tend to suspect that ANY AM in the market (short of the ones owned by Clear Channel and Cumulus) is for sale for the right price. And Glunt sure seems to have some money at his disposal. The WRTK acquisition is being paid by him in CASH.

could be wrong but i believe BIA would find him incorrect.....WLOA was actively programmed as a Y town station and was most recently programmed to reach the catholic diocese of Y town.....

it will be interesting to see what happens........
