THE HYPOCRISY OF CHANNEL 4 WBZ NEWS

Tonight, election night in the Boston area, WBZ did a segment with the increasing annoying Jon Keller lamenting the fact the few people vote in local elections. Just prior to that piece they just did a voice over mentioning two elections in the area, one in Quincy and one in Boston. Channel 4 did not bother to send a cameraman or reporter out to either location to cover those races. NO, just a 10 second announcement that both incumbents lost. No total results in either race were given. However, they spent an inordinate amount of time with a stand up in Worcester outside the Memorial Auditorium because a homeless man was found dead there.
Talk about total hypocrisy. They complain that no one votes and yet they spend more time on police blotter items than on elections which could actually affect the individual views. Would not mind so much if Channel 4 WBZ did not pontificate under the Jon Keller banner that no one votes. Of course, Channel 4 did not even want to cover the local races...no blood or guts or crashed cars to show.
Again, what a bunch of hypocrites at WBZ TV Channel 4 !

Did they tell people to go to their website for election returns (same as with no-school/snow day
announcements)? Why bother to actually have local news on the local newscast, eh

(in my own case up here on the North Shore I was pleased to see Salem News website had
full election returns)

Or at the very least, a scrolling banner at the bottom of the screen with the evening's results?

Channel 4 would probably say that there were so many local elections that they couldn't cover them all. So, the decided not to cover any of them.
Well, I am sure there were many auto accidents yesterday and death of homeless men. Why did Channel 4 just cover one accident and one homeless man's death. Gee, look at all the auto accidents and death of homeless men they offended by not covering them.

This is why they are number 3 or 4 in the market and heading toward oblivion. Fox 25 having an 11PM newscast is only going to push WBZ closer to the cliff.

I like Maria Stephanos and Mark Okerbloom the new Fox 25 anchor but I tried to watch it last night for "local" election results but they were worse than Channel 4.

Fox News at 10 was using the Police Blotter for news copy. And when they ran out of local police news they went up to some hick town in New Hampshire to report on some crime there.

No, Fox News is pure tabloid - if it bleeds it leads - with a little more class than Ansen's total trash heap called WHDH Channel 7 News.

Channel 5 is only slightly better than the rest but I see them going in that direction as well.

A crawl at the bottom is the least that they could do.

This trend toward being myopic with respect to elections reflects laziness and seems to be pervading most newsrooms in Boston. Heaven forbid that you should have an important election somewhere outside of 128 or, worse yet (gasp), in those distant parts of the market such as Worcester County.

It reflects laziness and is a reflection of the desire to serve the lowest common denominator.

Well said. Another problem probably occurs because so many news directors are from another state. But that is an excuse. They should learn.
Maybe, if a losing candidate took a punch at the winning candid
ate all the TV stations would be there to cover the brawl.
