Freshly returned from his "sabbatical" courtesy of the Rev. Al and the Rutger's Women's Basketball Team, syndicated host Don Imus now seems to be trying to earn the ire of Gays. In what apparently was to be a mutually promoting kissy fest with Boston local host (briefly syndicated) Jay Severin, whose station carries Imus in Boston, Severin had the temerity not to agree with the I-man's current enthusiasm for preacher turned Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee. Imus shot back, "Why don't you like Huckabee? Are you gay of what?"

For those of you who like "sources," here you are:

Gay old time
By Inside Track
Thursday, December 13, 2007

Don Imus, back on the air just two weeks after taking a good long forced hiatus in the wake of the “nappy-headed ’hos” brouhaha, yesterday stuck his foot back in his mouth calling WTKK afternoon drive guy Jay Severin “gay.”

During a political discussion, the I-Man inquired as to why Severin didn’t like GOP hopeful Mike Huckabee.

“Why don’t you like Huckabee, because you’re gay or what?” Imus inquired.

Media Matters:
Imus: "Why don't you like Huckabee? Because you're gay, or what?"

On the December 12 edition of ABC Radio Networks' Imus in the Morning, while discussing Republican presidential candidates Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee with radio host* Jay Severin, host Don Imus asked, "Why don't you like Huckabee? Because you're gay, or what?" Following Imus' comment, co-host Charles McCord exclaimed, "Oh, come on, what the hell was that?" Sound engineer Lou Rufino added, "Stand by for the drive-by."

One wonders if the I-man's program director has any control over his high-paid "star." There was a time when PDs were supposed to prevent this sort of thing. Now it looks like they encourage it (and then dissociate themselves and fire talent when some incendiary remark blows up). (Source: Imus' lawsuit against CBS)

Doesn't Imus (along Savage and the rest) realize that activists are out there, recording and hanging on every word, waiting for "hate speech?"

I have to agree with JML on this one. That is kind of a sad attempt at humor. And if you look into what the Rev. would like to see for this country I don't think Imus would be to thrilled to live in it.

I don't really understand Imus' humor, infact I don't know anyone who does. But I am 28 and kinda low on his demo.

For the most part, activits who whine and cry over what a radio host says tend to only succeed in raising curiosity of said host, his/her ratings and ad revenue.
America is wising up, for the most part, to professional offended parties who cry about eveyr word somebody they don't agree with happens to say.

he ONLY reason Sharkman his minions succeeded was that many thought Imus went too far insulting young women who did nothing to provoke his or anyone's ire. The Rutgers Womens Basketball team were just a bunch of amateur athletes who were just tryign to win a championship and nver deserved what was said by Imus. This opened the door for the "activists" to blow this out of proportion enough to have fickle radio suits hide under the covers.

Don Imus was never funny, and now that people are listening for something funny he is even less funny.
