The Ides of March (not the "Vehicle" ones) and the absent Charlie Adams

Charlie Adams chose a ---- of a week to be on vacation from WEEU or otherwise indisposed. Today is the Ides of March. I would have liked to have heard his remarks at 8:07 this morning about Caesar and such.

And I still stick to my fantasy edict... were I to own WEEU, I would insist that the birthdays and things-that-happened-this-day-in-history be delivered at 8:07 by Charlie or substitute (Paul Roberts this week) with *no* preemption by guests, or I would hire someone willing to do so. A guy can dream...

Mitch Gearhart's subtly clever comments that occasionally populate that shtick make it worth a listen.

I, too, wish they'd stick to the 8:07 time for that, because I am not listening to WEEU at 7:37.

I wonder if he was ill -- he was back on the air today, and his voice sounded a little raspy.

Precisely -- WEEU reminds me of the full-service radio station (WBEN, Buffalo) that kept our mornings on track growing up in the 1960s.

WEEU is rarely offensive -- doesn't resort to shock or sex or boneheaded drivel from its morning hosts to entertain its listeners.

It airs news, traffic, weather, and sports at predictable, consistent times.

You can tell by the wordplay between Mitch Gearhart and Charlie Adams that Mitch -- especially -- is a clever person, and both he & Charlie have a sharp wit.

I am part of that older demographic -- will turn 50 this November. Any surprise that I like "antique" radio?

Would *I* be? I turn 45 in August.

And closer to the topic, Charlie played Irish jigs last Friday for obvious reasons.

For some reason I enjoy WEEU's news, weather, sports (orchestral like), traffic and snow closing sounders, as well as the music beds that link TROTS to the 69 News simulcast and Howie Long's "3rd and Long" to the ABC newscast at 6:00p Thur. and Fri. that preceeds Paul Roberts' "Sports Democracy" on those nights (though both will be preempted tonight by March Madness on WW1, as they were last night).

Neither am I.
