N.C., Pittsburgh Sportscasting Legend Bill Currie Dies...

Condolences to family and friends of longtime sportscaster BILL CURRIE, who died MONDAY night in YELM, WA after a brain hemorrhage. His age is being reported variously as 83 or 85.

What an amazing sportscaster Bill was. I grew up listing to him and his partner Ray Reeve covering ACC basketball on the radio - particularly the Dixie Classic Tournament. He was on of the reasons I got into the radio business! RIP!
 
I vividly remember him from his days on WSOC-TV. Between him and "Big" Bill Ward on WBTV, you could find out anything about any sport. It was only much later that I learned he was Woody Durham's predecessor behind the microphone of UNC basketball games.

It was a loss to the south when he moved up to PA...and a loss to broadcasting now that he is no longer with us. In a way, he was one of my motivations for getting into this business as well.

I watched Bill throughout College, on KDKA Television. There will never be another one like him. He had a Personality,
as well as Class. If anyone is interested check out www.kdka.com there are are some clips of Bill, and also a great tribute.
