The Mulligan Stew

Back between 1975 and 1979, there was a children's show called 'Mulligan Stew'
that aired mostly on PBS stations as part of the stations' in-school
programming. it was produced by 4-H along with the U.S.Department Of Agriculture
and featured 5 kids of various races along with an adult named Wilbur Dooright
they were always talking the 4 food groups, singing about food, and getting
into funny situations with Wilbur. I remember seeing it on Kentucky's KET
public-TV station on Friday afternoons. I kinda liked the show and wouldn't
mind seeing it again by chance. does anyone else remember it?

Boy, talk about a flashback to the brown acid!

Either the PBS station in Memphis or the Miss. ETV network carried MULLIGAN STEW, and we were (pardon the phrase) force-fed the show during 6th grade science class (1976-77, right in the middle of your time frame).

The producers of the show offered a companion workbook/lyric sheet ... and everyone in the class sang along with the show's theme (think William Hung with backing singers The Shaggs). I can still hear the theme's hook ..... ARRRRRRGH, make it stop!!!!

And at the end of the school year, as a project, we made Mulligan Stew. Helped prove once and for all that I'm not a cook! :)

PS -- In the fall of '77, NBC had a short-lived, unrelated series called Mulligan's Stew. Wonder if 4-H, et al, got their beef broth in a knot over that....

I remember that show, even though it was produced in 1973. They used to show it on WMVS-10/Milwaukee. You just can't get that "Good Nutrition" song out of your head. They also had a comic book based on that show too.

BTW here's a link about the show: http://www.strangecult.com/pisser/mulligan.html
