The NBC affiliate defection of the late 70's-early 80's

Don't forget the mess in SF with KNTV being snagged by NBC as an O & O after negotiations feel through with KRON!
They'll still talking about that one on the SF board!

That came much later; you could also throw
in the mess in Miami when WTVJ became an
NBC o&o. I wanted to keep my list confined
to current NBC affiliates that joined the network
in the period roughly 1977-83, although KRGV did
switch just before this period.

KPNX/12 Phoenix (isn't there also onein Flagstaff?)

Yes. KNAZ-TV 2 Flagstaff is also owned by Gannett, but it is merely a full-time satellite of KPNX now. Since Gannett acquired the station in 1997, KNAZ has been a consistent money loser, and Gannett has been looking to dump the station for a couple of years now with no success. Once upon a time, KNAZ had its own newscasts, 2 News, but in an effort to slash costs in order to attract a buyer, Gannett first ended the weekend news, replacing it with a simulcast of 12 News, then last September, got rid of local newscasts altogether.
