The new and improved sound of 97.9 The Beat

New PD Mark McCrae has made some changes and I'm digging it. Dr. Dave Ferguson is now voicing the station. "The Beatdown Mix" is now heard on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The mix at 5pm is now called "The 5 O'Clock Fire Mix", and now an 8pm mix has been added: "The 8 O'Clock Beatdown Mix". Reminding me of the 97.9 of the past... Love it!

Yeah Ric, I'm actually starting to listen to the radio again! ;D

Buc, what time do they mix on the weekends and how about weekdays at noon? Here in the A, sister staiton HOT 107.9 only mixes at 5pm and 9pm on weekdays. The weekends they mix from 9pm-4am and 10pm-2am Sunday nights. Also, HOT has started adding "R&B" into numorous liners along with still using "Atlanta's Only Hip-Hop Station."

Do they play "rack city" a lot? Between that and "Dance (A$$)" by Big Sean, I don't know which one I hear more. Seems like I heard both of those even more when I went to LA!

Shawty, I just really started listening again, but I believe Monday-Friday, they mix at 12pm, 5pm and 8pm. I believe Friday night, 9pm-? Saturday night, 9pm-?, and Sunday evening, 6pm-8pm. They are really sounding much better. Hot got the mixing on lock in the ATL!

Yes, 97.9 plays both songs, and now they've started playing the "Birthday Cake" remix, by Chris Brown and Rihanna.

Buc, is 97.9 The Beat throwing in 5-second ads in between songs? The Box and Majic here in the H are doing it, and it sounds kinda tacky, if you ask me.

They're doing it here in Atlanta. You'll hear the usual "HOT 1079" or "Hotspotatl.com" in between songs. Birthday Cake Remix was #1 tonight here on the Phat 7 @7. Be on the lookout for an artist from ATL named Cash Out with his debut hit "Cashin Out." It's a big hit here and was shocked to hear CC's Q93 in New Orleans playing it during Mardi Gras weekend.

Not too sure Ric. I'll have to listen.
