The New Springsteen album, The Super Bowl..and airplay?

E Street Band guitarist Nils Lofgren appeared on WTVT News Edge Lightning round. I chuckled when he looked at Young Mark Wilson, stating "You might be too young to remember this stuff". I figured if nothing else, the heir apparant to the Wilson family anchorship would certainly be up to speed and would impress Lofgren..

Um...nope.

Now the Super Bowl ( If I can use that term without getting whacked by the NFL because I haven't paid to use it ) has been trying to book Bruce since 1975. He briefly considered playing in 1984...to which Wilson snarkly tossed "Oh, thats when Born To Run came out"....Lofgren politely corrected The Heir with "Born in the U S A"...

Anyway, supposedly this Mr Springsteens best effort in years. Which Tampa FM outlet will play any of it?

Answer: None, unless someone at WNMF might toss one on just to get him some airplay...

WMNF WOULD BE THE BEST BET, BUT I DON'T SEE WHY WMTX COULD NOT PLAY IT AS THEY SUPPOSEDLY PLAY NEW MUSIC FOCUSING ADULTS. OR---------IF BUBBA IS SUCH A 'REBEL' AS HE CLAIMS, HE SHOULD JUMP AT IT. ACTUALLY, MAGIC COULD ALSO PLAY IT. THEY PLAY MELLENCAMP AND USE THE IMAGING OF "CONTEMPORARY".

MNF is playing it. But even more important, Safety Dance is being played on 101.5 for a millionth time on the "NEW" 101.5.

Tampa needs a AAA station.

I agree, but who would flip from the comfort zone the ownership groups are stuck in? CC? Cox? CBS? Back in 2001, 107.3 did play new music as "The Bay". I don't see how new music could hurt the Eagle. They don't even need a jock to do that.

It could be done on the cheap like "New music week-ends" with the same boring Eagle liners.

It's a plan! ::)

Even though they're classic hits, 107.3 should be playing it simply because the game is here. And speaking of that, how lame is it that the town the game is actually being played in, the radio broadcast is only on the struggling nighttime signal of 1010. I guess most will SEE the game on TV but it would be nice if CBS stuck it on 99.5 or 104.7. I mean come on... it's a Sunday night for a few hours. It's not gonna hurt either station in the big ratings picture.

Yeah, the old classic rockers can't find many places to air their new work. And the funny thing is guys like Springsteen, Bob Seeger and even Bob Dylan have turned out some air play worthy stuff over the past few years that won't even be played by the stations that air their classics.

Springsteen is still cranking out some interesting stuff in his late years and it certainly is audience worthy. The new album is not amongst his best collections, but has a few very strong tracks. Magic was an overall better album, but there are a few songs on Working on A Dream (Notably Outlaw Pete and The Wrestler) that stand up very well next to his best stuff.

Thanks to Sirius, at least I can here it.

I really think at this point not to expect anything from CC, Cox, or CBS. I expect that only WMNF will take any chances or you just go buy the music. It's sad, but it seems the stations in Tampa Bay are in a state of absolute stagnation except for WHPT ( which is still hard to figure how Cox actually took a chance on personality) . It's getting to the point of redundancy ( of which I am guilty) to complain about any station in this market.

The "Old" Point 102.5 under Paxson, would not only play the classic rock, but the new stuff by the Classic Rockers. "Just Good Rock and Roll" might have been a matter of opinion, but I wouldn't mind a local terristrial give it another spin.

I was gonna mention that station here. The Point 102.5 would have played that and many other new songs by classic rockers. That station actually did really well when Paxson owned it. When Clear Channel took over, they tinkered with the format a bit and it began to lose focus. Then when Cox took over, all hope was lost.

Yes- The Point 102.5 was my favorite Tampa Bay station. By the way, you can hear Carson Cooper on Sirius XM's Radio Margaritaville.
The World Class Rock format should work well on 101.5. Uh oh - Gotta go, they are playing Love Shack again.

If you want to listen to a great AAA online, check out WXPK 107.1. This station transmits for suburban New York.
