The New York Yankees on ESPN Radio 1410 WPOP

Clear Channel's WPOP 1410 is part of the New York Yankees Radio Network - flagship station is WCBS 880 in NYC. Anyway the other night while waiting for a friend at The Bristol Walmart I was flipping through the AM dial and I noticed something with the Yankees Game. WPOP is several seconds ahead of WCBS. Is that because WCBS broadcasts in HD and as far as I know WPOP doesn't?

During the game, WCBS shuts off the HD signal on 880. The pre-and post games it remains on.
During the actual game, the main 880 transmission (i've heard this first hand inside the stadium) is only about 1/2 second behind the mic inside the stadium.

On the other hand, WTIC is about 8 seconds behind WQUN during the Red Sox games. Don't know if this is because of HD or delay. I have heard that all programming out of CBS-Hartford is delayed.

because of the Digital transitions, I noticed on Comcast, it was 5 seconds faster on a cable ready analog signal than through the Cable box here in New Britain then in my girlfriends room. WTF! to make it more interesting, the game on WLAD, was faster when I was in Danbury by a few seconds over WCBS on 10/19/0. another example is when I was talking to another friend, the other week in Stamford, on cablevision (optimum) there seems to be a 10 second Delay over WCBS! Yikes. it seems the DTV transition and HD radio is killing live time and causing major unwanted delays. what's next? getting score updates on our cell phones before the play takes place?

Actually, I know of another delay with WTIC-AM 1080 and the Red Sox...compare them during the season against the same coverage on WEEI-FM 103.7 of Westerly/Providence. WTIC was at least a good 10 seconds behind.

On a semi-related note, the tone on the hour with WINS-AM 1010 of New York sounded at :00:11 against my watch while in midtown today. I always keep my watch within a second of my alarm clock that has an atomic timer.
