The NFL Football Season begins, but where is DOUBLE T 104.3 ?

So, I was looking foraward to kicking back and listening to the Pittsburgh game tonight on FM radio. I flipped on 104.3, looking forward to hearing the game broadcast on that beautiful FM signal. However, instead, I found some jagoffs talking about some random crap. There was no NFL game to be heard. So, I realized that I had to flip over to the extremely bad AM signal of KKAM to listen to the very first NFL game of the season. Now, obviously, this is because DOUBLE T does not have a deal with Westwood One and KKAM still does. However, I was foolishly under the impression that DOUBLE T was going to be the SPORTS AUTHORITY. So, needless to say, I think NOT having Westwood One on board with your new SPORTS STATION is a big loss for DOUBLE T. Now, the issue of not having Westwood One could simply be just a matter of time until they score them too or it could be something that they will never score.
 
Heh, Kinda reminds me of the Ford Pinto. Sure it got everybody's attention at first, but then the gas tanks started exploding and everybody realized it's crap. Haha Come to think of it, that should be their new positioning statement, " The new Double T 104.3 radio's Pinto".
 
Not sure I'd call it the Pinto yet. They still have the market's best talk show imo (tech talk). They still have Tech sports plus Rangers and Cowboys. I'm not sure how not having NFL hurts them much.

However, the website fiasco is inexcusable. It's inconceivable that they're still not streaming, etc. Poor planning on someone's part over there.
 
I am sorry. I just don't understand how you put time and money into a FM SPORTS STATION in a market the size of Lubbock... and you don't have NFL coverage... actual game coverage. However, this post could be wrong come Sunday afternoon... if they are carrying some NFL games. They will have Monday night football because of ESPN. However, if that is all they have, when it comes to NFL game's... I see it as a huge negative. Not everyone is interested in Rangers baseball, Cowgirls football or even Tech. Yet, maybe the ones that are into all of that... outweigh the ones who are not. As for the station not having a website... I don't think any of the Ramar stations have any web presence. Which, I really think is a ball being dropped. Even if you don't want to pay someone to keep it up to date and active for listeners to interact with it... at least put up a dummy page with just the basic info. In this day and age... you have to have web presence.

Double T 104.3 will hopefully have a website soon. If you go to doublet1043.com, the Double T 1043 logo appears. This website hasn't been updated ever since the station made its debut. I think it's clear that a website is in the works (why else would Ramar purchase the domain doublet1043.com?), but for them to take this long is simply inexcusable .

Recently, KDBN in Dallas flipped to CHR Top 40 and their website was ready literally right when the station launched. I don't understand why the same didn't happen for Double T.
 
Like I said... you have to have some sort of presence on the web... something!
 
in short, i think you are all saying, "If You Want to call yoursef T H E Sports Station" you have to be ALL over it, people EXPECT that you will carry EVERY important GAME, Local & National, and that includes some games in the NFL. if you don't you're a joke.
there's NO excuse for it other than to say it is the half ass way Ramar does RADIO.
 
My guess is it's just like many other cities. One station gets the coveted home team, Cowboys, Texans, whomever and I think usually the secondary station gets what's left, in this case the NFL contract. Maybe it's different elsewhere, but I can recall in different cities hearing the home team network on one sports station then hearing the game of the week on one of the other stations. The Cowboys here were on 104 for probably seven hours today, which was great. Brad Sham is probably the best in the business. The other network probably wants to get air time on Sundays, something 104.3 can't offer.

I do think they have a pretty novel idea of putting their Tech pre-game show on TV, so you can go from home to car and back during the day. This week they did a better job of covering the nation's big games during the morning hours and their high school show is top-notch. I flew to Dallas in the afternoon, so didn't get to listen then. You'd think 1340 would counter with some kind of big college football show, but last week when I listened they had some guy talking about pipes and cigars. If that doesn't get you ready for college football I don't know what will! I heard Leach on the postgame when I was in Dallas and he was pretty funny talking with Jenson and Harris.
 
FYI--
The top news/talk here in Austin doesn't carry the Longhorns or the Cowboys. Interestingly for the Horns KLBJ-AM does a pre-grame show and a post-game show but they run Money Talk and Dr Dean Edell during the game itself. It works for them.
 
Here's the site for Double T 104.3! Or at least this is what it should look like at least in the mean time. I emailed Chuck some time ago and asked him if I could design the site and the sites for the other stations... however, I was never given a response. They obviously have their own people. However, what their web people are doing... still remains to be seen. **** This is just a design I threw together.

Funny, I don't recall KKAM carrying that many NFL games when they didn't have the Cowboys. I seem to recall them carrying ESPN's Sunday broadcast with Freddy Coleman and company. Sounds to me like some of the guys on the outside looking in are stirring the pot. I'm sorry, I'll take the Cowboys on 104.3 as opposed to Cincinnati and Seattle every week.
 
I wasnt looking to stir anything up. I was simply making an observation. Now, I wasnt in town to hear if they had multiple games on Sunday. If they did, thats great. However, if they only had the Cowgirls and then Monday night football, then that is pretty lame for being a FM SPORTS. So, with that being said, if anyone was able to catch the station Sunday and tonight, I would like to hear how it played out.
 
Ok.... So, yesterday, 104.3 had no NFL game actions at all EXCEPT for the Cowgirls. As for MNF, I know that KKAM will have it tonight, because they were promoting that fact yesterday while I was listening to the Ravens game... on KKAM. Now, I assumed, which is stupid, that since 104.3 had ESPN, that MNF would go to them and only them. However, this must not be the case.

So, with this being said, I ask, what exactly is the point of having a sports station... when basically all you are going to broadcast is TEXAS related sports... minus the TEXANS, at least they didn't yesterday. I just don't get it. You are basically a station that broadcasts TECH SPORTS, DALLAS COWGIRLS and the RANGERS... is that truly profitable???? I am not being a smart ass... I am honestly asking. I mean is there more to it then that? Are we talking STARS and MAVERICKS as well? I don't know???? Please someone educate me.
 
I could be wrong, but I believe 1340 used to run Cowboys and Texas Tech, and being the only sports station, ran Sunday night football. I believe a few years back they had Rangers, or it might have been 790. I believe 104.3 and 950 took the rights to most of those teams, Cowboys and Texas Tech, so 1340 takes what's left over.

With so many games available, it's probably pretty easy for two different stations to run football. But I imagine it's a bit easier to sell advertising for 16 weeks of Cowboys rather than games like Ravens, Patriots, Bears, etc. When I worked in radio years ago it was mostly in sales, so I know to listen for what is running on stations and 104.3 sure does have a lot of different local clients, and it seems like they're adding more weekly. Obviously, 1340 has the tenure, especially in the afternoon to keep long time clients. It's probably a marathon and not a sprint between those 2 stations.
 
The last couple of years KKAM didn't have the Cowboys or the Rangers. So I guess it works both ways.
