The NFL on Westwood One - Broadcast "Delay" of over a Minute ? ? ? ?

I hope that someone can shed some light on why there was around a 1 minute delay of the Radio coverage of the NFL on Westwood One of the AFC Championship Game Sunday, Jan. 24th between the NY Jets and the Indianapolis Colts.

I turned down the TV sound and turned on my Westwood One Affiliate KRLD-FM 105.3. I saw a play happen on the TV, ---- but the radio coverage was talking about the previous play. I've heard of 7 second delays and the like.... but this 60 second delay was something I do not remember ever hearing. What's up with a 60 second delay ? ? ?

Was this unique to my local station, or, were most, or all of the Westwood One's affiliates also delivering this 60 second delay ?

My whole point for wanting to listen to the radio broadcast, while watching the TV feed, was because I had grown very tired of hearing the CBS TV host yip-yap about other CBS TV shows and the like, while I was trying to focus on a Championship Football Game.... (I know it's his job to "talk up" the CBS shows, and he has no choice in doing that..... but it still very annoying.... at least there wasn't such stumping on the radio feed...)

Probably more on the local affiliate

Figure in the digital delay and the local delay to keep bombs from being dropped... I could see it being pretty delayed.

The station that carrid the WW1 game is in HD radio, which adds something like 18 seconds of delay. Add in any local or national 7 second delays, and you get to about 40 seconds, or one full football play.

I have an HD radio, but the radio I was listening to 105.3 on was not HD.

When I tune in most HD radio stations, the difference in seconds from the analog and the HD signal is usually not more than --5-- seconds.

So, I still don't know how you come up with a 40 second delay.... ???

If 105.3 is HD there is a delay built in to that system for buffering. By rule the station is supposed to delay their analog audio to match the IBOC delay. That way if you are listening on a HD radio it is seamless when it switches.

CBS requires all of their stations to use a profanity delay as well.
