the old "windy 105" .... 104.9 ... i think the calls were wrdr , but not sure

this is a posting on this board from up in the pennsy \ jersey area ... my mom lives in mathews , virginia .. she has a fairly good receiver , somewhat selective as well as sensitive ... she loved listening to this station ... (a live feed i believe...) when the format was an older aged format ... when they changed their format twice , in the past 2 or 3 three years , she has lost the only station she liked on the f.m. dial .... now i have to have her sony table radio (not her great receiver) tuned to a weak maryland signal , roughly 540 khz , to hear anything at all that she likes ... is there any hope at all for 104.9 to go back to how it was , or , perhaps , another f.m. station , that might convert to this format , or similar , any time soon ? she is . as well as i , frustrated ... any response would be greatly appreciated ... thank you

Yeah, Windy 105 (WNDJ-FM) bit the dust and has been replaced at 104.9 by Country-formatted WIGO. Just up the dial is 105.5/WRAR, but that one is a Hot AC--probably too hot for your mom (if I'm interpreting your message correctly).

Not far from Mathews, though, is 740/WMBG in Williamsburg, VA--a "nostalgia" station that might be closer to her taste. A little further down the Bay--in Norfolk--is 1230/WJOI, another "nostalgia" format. Being near the water as Mathews is, the AM signals do go further than they do over land, so she may be able to get both of them reasonably well--at least during the daytime. At night? Well, interestingly, 740 kHz is also the home to Toronto's 50,000-watt CHWO, which also specializes in "nostalgia." So if she just keeps it on 740, she may be just fine.

thanks a million for your posting , amfmxm ...yes 105.5 in tappahannock is way too hot for her .... but , the 740 a.m. wmbg might just be the ticket for her , or the 1230 wjoi ..... i am going to print your posting on here , so i can bring it with me to mathews next month , and play with her receivers , and give her the printing of your posting on here ... thanks again !!!!
