the passion of boston radio listeners

A big reason why I love Boston so much is the passion, and not only for the sports teams.

If you go to the main page for all the boards on this site, The Boston board has the most posts/replies by far. 10,000 more than the one with the 2nd most.

Just thought I'd throw that out there. We bostonions love to argue and speak our minds and thats why I love it here.

Its alot to talk about, When a Radio market is AWFUL !

Someone is a glass is half empty kind of a guy! WBCN is almost as good as it was with the Big Mattress 15-20 years ago, Dale and Holley is one of the best talk shows (in any genre) in the country, and thank god we don't have many hip hop stations to deal with. All Boston needs is a few more rock station, i'm thinking maybe all classic rock from 65-78, then a station that plays the hits from 78-95, and then you need a progressive rock station for all the in between songs.

Boston Needs a Good Music Station ( all these Rock stations are AWFUL).

Now what kind of styles of music do you actually like Rapking? As far as I can tell, you only like rap and hate rock.

I myself listen to a lot of Jam'n 94.5 when visiting greater Boston...at least in the areas where the "Walkman" doesn't get overloaded with modulation from the Prudential Center. Occasionally, I'll flip to Kiss 108 and wish that Hartford's Kiss 95.7 could be half as good as them. I also listened to WBOS-FM 92.9 of Brookline, since it was mentioned here on the board. It sounds an awful lot like WURH-FM of Waterbury/Hartford, a.k.a Radio 104.1. They're a modern rock rock station with no DJs, except for somebody reading the occasional liner. Lastly, I'll check WBZ-AM 1030, to check on weather and traffic.

Care to elaborate? I happen to think Boston has a good variety of rock stations on the dial. I've actually got a couple questions for you Mr. "Rapking" (with a name like that you get no credit for judging rock stations in the first place). With what do you base these stations as "horrible?" Also, are you biased towards another type of music and simply calling these stations horrible because you don't like the music to begin with? I pretty much assume that that idea is the truth in this situation and you're just sore about not having an Urban AC.

One of the things that makes the Boston market so interesting is the fact that New Englanders might be the most opinionated people in America. And that lends itself to radio.

See...radio is supposed to be about interaction. And contrary to those who think they're doing the right thing by automating, and voice tracking with out-of-market talent, when you take away the ability to interact, you kill the prime benefit of radio...its immediacy.

Regardless of your musical tastes, you should feel fortunate to be working in a market that isn't about the songs. Boston has always loved its radio/TV personalities. So much so that some would be unable to switch stations. Imagine Chuck Nowlin on WBOS. Or, Hardy on FNX.

Bostonians really equate the personality with the station. And that...is a good thing when you crack a mic for a living. Your audience cares who you are, and where you work.

That's something you just don't get in a lot of cities. And something that anyone programming successfully understands.

He has stated before that he only listens to 94 HJY out of Providence as his crutch for rock music. For those in Boston that don't get a chance to listen, its like WAAF but more emphasis on the classic rock than the newer rock.

Wow, I actually agree with Paul here 100%!!!! I guess anything is possible!!!!! ;) :p ;D

WHJY IS GREAT!!! R.I.P. Doctor Metal ( WHJY D.J. Whom was Killed at The Station Nightclub Fire ).

Of course....very few program directors would consider a SOUNDTRACK & FILM SCORES Format....so I guess I shouldn't bring this idea up? ::)
