Earlier on, I began a thread about local news radio. This week, I've seen it's power.
It's no secret I'm an old fart. I admittedly listen to talk and news radio. I listen to oldies when available too.
So, I'm listening to Kevin Nelson and Dave Shannon earlier this week. They were talking about Paternoville, those tents the kids are staying in to get front row seats at the stadium. Then they break into song to the tune of Margaritaville. It's one verse. Some teacher calls in and asks if he can have it to share in his class.
On to Glenn Beck, etc.
The next day, I'm listening again, full blown song, with all of the verses, chorus, everything. And a website to go download the song. Go download the song. Pretty damned amazing.

Then I flip over to WBLF later to listen to Jed Donahue/Sportsline. Call after call after call begging them to go download this song and play it. They do. Statewide show for Jed. Statewide exposure for Paternoville and "JoePaternoVille," the anthem.
Then on to check out the CDT's website. There's a link to Paternoville. Here's what I found:
http://blogs.centredaily.com/front_row/
(Scroll down to November 2nd.) That leads me to:

(Scroll down to November 2nd.)
Then curiously I do a Google search for "JoePaternoVille" and find this:
http://www.pennlive.com/weblogs/pen.../mtlogs/penn_50yardlion/archives/2005_11.html
As of this writing, the counter shows over 4200 hits.
Word also has it Tommy Wareham is singing it at the Ale House and the kids up in the tents are sharing the file, passing out copies of the words and singing it over and over.
Spoke to a Forever friend earlier tonight about this phenomenon. Word has it a TV station from Harrisburg (?) asked for permission to use it in one of their Penn State sports stories tonight.
This phenomenon will be short lived as there is only one more home game this season but it goes to show...local radio can be and is powerful. All you need is a base willing to run with your story.
Any other stories of the power of local radio to share?
