I do not care if it on the alt charts or not it belongs on active formats not alt stations at all. Any station classified as alt should not be playing it :mad: With that said i like the song but it has no business being played on alternative radio and i do not care if it hits number one on alt charts it only belongs on active formats!!!
 
Are you nuts? That's probably the most pop sounding thing they've ever done! "Psycho" not only plays well in Alternative radio, but it will probably blow up in CHR as well.
 
The song does not have an alt feel to it nor does avenge seven fold or buckcherry these artists belong on active not alt. Music like the hives the vines radiohead coldplay foxboro hottubs belong on alternative radio. There should be very few crossovers between alt and active they need not be drinking from the same pond.
 
I agree with hotpatrick2004. Even though plenty of good music came out of the Seattle "Grunge" years, that period has lead to an unfortunate overlap between Active and Alternative ever since the early '90s. Back in the '80s, each format had distinct differences, and I don't understand why we can't have that today.

Puddle Of Mudd is nothing spectacular. Granted, they're not quite as awful as this Nickelback / 3 Doors Down / Buckcherry / Hinder / Daughtry dreck (but what is?), but their music is painfully generic - like Nirvana filtered through Def Leppard sensibilities (c'mon, tell me the lyrics to their songs don't remind you of '80s hair metal). Up to this point they're best known for a Pro-Tooled to death cornball power ballad ("Blurry") and a Suicidal Tendencies ripoff so blatant that they should have been sued ("She Hates Me").

Aside from this, you have Seether, Foo Fighters, Linkin Park, Avenged Sevenfold ... and the list goes on and on. There is just too much sharing between the two formats, and I think it has resulted in the two cannibalizing each other. Active and Alternative need to go back to the old way of doing things - both formats were the better for it.
 
SC...Active is the "new" alternative. Alternative is dead & has been for a number of years.

So alternative is dead tell that to lets see. www.indie1031.com in los angeles and www.cd101.com in columbus ohio and wfnx in boston and knrk and wswd the sound in cincinnati and whtg grock in new jersey and 91 x in sandiego and fm949 in sandiego you get the picture ;D some of these stations are more alternative then others but they all do have a common thread they are alt staions that play alternative music and for the most part with few exceptions do not drink from the same ocean!!! Active rock some of it i enjoy but is an evil stepchild derived from alternative probably from some suit that had no idea what they were doing!!! Yes you can stream whatever you like online but it sure would be nice to turn on the radio and here cool left of center rock tunes which is getting hard to do with active f-%%% everything up!!!People that like coldplay or the clash or the vines or the hives or mika or foxboro hottubs or radiohead do not want to here avengesevenfold or mudvayne or three days grace or seether or korn alongside they do not merry well together and NEVER WILL EVER EVER EVER NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER!!!EVER
 
Umm...hotpatrick? How old are you? Really now?

You cite less than a handful of stations that are alt. Good for them to be able to stick it out as long as they have. We can also recite a list of stations that didn't make it (99X in Atlanta, for one).

Point is, alt as a viable format, nationwide, is dead & has been since about 1998 or so. I too lament its passing, but what can you do? Active rock, like it or not, is the "new" alternative, and has been since the start of this decade. Personally, I'd rather hear more POM than say, Ozzy or AC/DC on the actives, but that's just me.

I get the feeling you're one of those "too cool for the room" types that wants to hear their niche on the radio. I suggest satellite or an ipod. Beyond that, maybe move within proximity of a large college?

Actually upstate, there's been something of a nationwide trend, especially with the pending transition to the Portable People Meter, of stations employing a hybrid Alternative/AAA format (like Radio 104.5 in Philly and Radio 92.9 in Boston) that doesn't overlap as much with Active Rock stations. As for long established Alt-Rock stations overlaping with Active Rock ones, I think that trend started with the decision to add Metallica to Alt-Rock playlists back in 1994.
 
104.5 Has been a breath of fresh air here...sometimes i wish they would play an active song....some stuff is too obscure or played out that they play regularly. good though for the most part. i happen to like Puddle Of Mudd alot...i thought Blurry was a great song by the way.They had a great debut cd a so so follow up and a strong third cd
 
the alt. format isn't dead, and anyone who likes that type of music is not necessarily any "cooler for the room" than a 38 year old mom who grooves to her local Hot AC.

.....and i agree: POM deserves no place at alt. radio. any station playing buckcherry/pom/etc deserves to be called "Rock" or "Active Rock" but not "Alt Rock/Modern Rock."

"Being alive" in a few large to sizable markets does not mean it's alive or viable nationwide, which is what I'm driving at.

"Falling Down" by Atreyu...now THAT song has no business on alt or active radio period. Horns? Gimme an F'in break. ::)

It can be viable it depends on two things how well it is programemd do not let the suits or consultants micromanage it and it depends on the sales team!!! Since the mid nineties alternative has really splintered into several different formats i think triple a, the original alt(fewer of those left but all in all doin fine) hot ac and modern ac and active rock now i am personally telling active stay the f off of alt charts and stations!!!

I do not hate the active format i just love the alt format and they should not ever mix!!!
 
I haven't heard it. Is it a cover of The Sonic's 1965 song of the same name.
 
TOTALLY agree with Hotpatrick. POM is a decent band that had some good ACTIVE rock hits. However they do not belong on the alt charts, along with Seether (#1 song, wtf?), and those other "butt rock" bands as Toucher and Rich call them. Radiohead, Foo Fighters, B-52's (they have a new record out), R.E.M.(also have a new record out) and newer acts like Foxboro Hot Tubs, Vampire Weekend and Death Cab For Cutie are ALTERNATIVE.
