The Shilling Out of KTAR News

From the constant shilling, you'd think KT'R landed an exclusive with Osamba Bin Laden. Nope...just Tim and Willy discussing their parting from KNIX in an hour long interview Thursday afternoon. The big tease about their future on the station turns out to be two days of subbing for Mac & Cheese in January.

So what's the issue?

Somehow the Tim and Willy story and McBland's interview became the lead story in every local newscast prior to 2pm. Kinda interesting that a half hour after the interview the story was no longer leading KT'R news. Real news lead the news.

And so the free fall continues on North Central. Talk elements are screwed up. Sports is screwed up. And now News is being used to serve the needs of a desperate programmer who sees his numbers sink each month.

Mark the date on your calendar as the day KTAR News shilled out.

The shilling was there when McBland did a full hour talking to two of his sponsors about their products...

for anyone in the valley for a while it was a big thing that these guys are out at knix. i saw this story on every t.v. channel tonight. all the media covered it today as a big story in entertainment.

We are definitely hearing more "KT'R" on KT'R-FM this week
than we did last week.

New slogan:
"Snooze/talk 92/3 KT'R, where every week it's a new slogan!"

Feel free to use it Russ--no charge. ;D

Of course, KFYI briefly tried being "Newsradio 550" to compete with 620 after they moved to the better stick, but found a better brand as a "Newstalk" talking about the news, rather than giving it. Now, it's the other way around and KTAR follows what KFYI does. Why do the news blocks, the endless traffic, etc., if you're just another talk station. Bruce Jacobs listeners don't care about traffic reports.
