The state of radio in Livingston TX

I haven't been through there recently and haven't happened upon it when tropo was active, but how is KETX-FM 92.3 sounding these days?

The last time I heard them (sometime last year) it was as awful as I had remembered: dead air, missed cues, sloppy production and bad audio. I also remember that they were in mono for years on end. Has anything changed?

Oh, and what about KETX 1440? A check of the FCC's "silent" list shows they've been off the air since May 7, 2006. The reason given on the STA application stated that a modulator tube socket was burned and they were having a hard time finding a replacement since it's an old transmitter. Ancient might be a better description, I'd suppose.

It's in the same boat still, and on top of that, it's satellite fed. yuck.

Not only is KETX 1440 off-air, but their simulcast that covered Lufkin/Nacogdoches with 6kw "KLSN" is off-air as well, supposedly transmitter issues as well.

Oh well, it's country, and there's another 20 country stations in the immediate area.

That's interesting news about KLSN! I checked their application for the STA and here's the reason given for being off the air: "THE RF DRIVER IN THE TRANSMITER HAS GONE DEAD, AND A REPLACEMENT DRIVER (WHICH IS MANUFACTURED IN ITALY) NEEDS TO BE OBTAINED. IT IS HOPED THAT THE STATION WILL RESUME OPERATIONS BY JANUARY 1, 2007."

"Gone dead" being a technical term, I suppose. BTW, in the aforementioned KETX 1440 STA application, that's also their target date for returning to the air. What a mess...
