The state of radio news in Dallas?

A

Hi, is anyone willing to give a Massachusetts resident a quick overview of the current state of radio news in Dallas? Are there good jobs there for an experienced news person or is it all about cutbacks, layoffs, etc, the way it is in New England? Any tips on where to look and/or what to avoid with Dallas stations? Thanks!!

Here comes the science:

A) KRLD 1080 has become a former shadow of itself in the 80's and 90's, Since Gavin Spittle took the reigns of the station a few years ago, the quality in reporting and anchors has dropped. When you lose one of your best people to NPR, you know you have issues.

B)KLIF is a Fox News Affiliate with mostly syndicated talk all day, they attemped live and local in the early 00's but post 9/11 they have been two things: Cheap and Easy in the bad sense. They got rid of their local news staff and brought in the feed to do all the work.

c)WBAP has become the worst of all, as they program all right wing, all the time after 9a until 12m. Thet only have about 20 hours of daily news block a week. Its become more about the politics and not enough about the news.

While this is true to some extent it is a small Cliff Notes version of what's fully going on in D/FW.

Let's give some credit to KRLD & WBAP for maintaining 24 hour local newsrooms with News, Traffic & Weather updates 24 hours a day. KTRH (Houston) & WOAI (San Antonio) don't provide local news around the clock anymore and it is refreshing to see (and hear) two major market stations continuing 24 hour coverage. Now, do I wish that KRLD & WBAP allowed more time for news during evening, overnight & weekend hours? You bet. But I would rather get something, than nothing.

Gavin, if you have to ask that question...on this forum...you really should give it up.
