The Talk': Jerry O’Connell Nears Deal to Fill Slot Vacated by Sharon Osbourne

Jerry O’Connell, a favorite among daytime TV fans, is nearing a deal to become a full-time co-host on “The Talk,” a person with knowledge of the conversations told TheWrap. He’ll effectively replace Sharon Osbourne, who left the CBS show in March.

A second individual told us negotiations between O’Connell and the talk show have been on and off since at least May. CBS declined to comment on this story.

O’Connell, a regular guest on the program, would become the show’s first full-time male co-host. Sheryl Underwood, Amanda Kloots and Elaine Welteroth are the remaining co-hosts on “The Talk.” Carrie Ann Inaba has taken a leave of absence from the series.

They're in some ways changing the entire dynamic of the show. In the past, all hosts and panelists on The Talk have been women. It'll be interesting to see how O'Connell is received or if many female viewers push back. Where I work, the ladies there did "girls night out" fairly regularly (pre-Covid) where the women from the office would get together and do happy hour drinks and dinner somewhere, no guys allowed. Women also often visit the restroom together in packs. Sure, part of that is for personal security, but it's also so they can chat and gossip. The Talk kind of felt that way at times. Having a guy on the panel now may alter that; time will tell.

With his guest stints, it’s not like this comes as a shock. The show played with the dynamic multiple times and they clearly liked something they saw there. This won’t hit viewers out the blue.

The question now is what does this mean for his Pictionary test run currently airing on FOX O&Os? Does he pull double duty if it's picked up? Do they look for another host? Or is Pictionary essentially DOA now?

I'm interested on how this 'guy on a women's show' works out. The Talk has had so many personality changes in the last two years. Reminds me of The View season 18 that started with Whoopi Goldberg, Rosie O'Donnell, Rosie Perez and Nicolle Wallace.

Such host turn over in 2 years.
While I'm not sure of the ratings or the popularity of the various hosts, according to articles during Sharon Osbourne's departure, it was her toxicity, her (mis)treatment of the other hosts and her manipulation that caused so much turnover among the others. Only those involved with the show know if that's fully accurate or not.

I am surprised that former hosts Aisha Tyler and Eve haven't publicly said anything about Osbourne. Similarly, Julie Chen and Sara Gilbert have been silent, even though they were alledgely on Osbourne's verbal tirades.
