You Can't mix R&B with House/Dance music???? Are you Kidding??? I don't know how DJ's Mix records in NYC, but in the "Chi", the DJ's blend R&B and House Music very well. If you have an excellent DJ, you can mix hip-hop, R&B, dance, rock and house in one set and STILL rock the house. BrooklynDon, maybe you need to come to the Chi and see how they roll. For you to even say that these genres cannot be blended obviously means you haven't heard REAL MIXING!!Brooklyndon said:Tony Santiago said:You still don't get it.
For a dance music oriented venue, this is amazing. Dance acts never sell out the Garden, let alone be involved in an MSG in the first place. Things are moving WAY up and it's a shame that, for your perspective that many hip-hop, rhythmic acts are coming over to our side.
Keep doubting, when we get a dance station above 92 and the first numbers come out, you'll eat what you said![]()
Even if, based on a single act selling out the Garden, ignoring the possibility that the sell out could just be the effect of scalpers who saw the tickets' price points and decided to get in on the action, you are right about the ratings potential being above a 1 share. How do you sell it? Who listens to house music at 11am on a Tuesday, and, more importantly, who wants to advertise to someone who does?
As a lifestyle format I just don't see the potential. At least with hip-hop you can throw in a little R&B and with Rock you can throw in some pop. What do you mix with dance? R&B?
The catalogue of artists is too small and the daytime audience is undesirable.
And this problem has cause every other dance station ever introduced in New York City to fail or become CHR. New Yorkers love the nightlife, they love to go clubbing, and dance music has never gone out of fashion in this City. The format just doesn't work.
Oh and yes, people DO listen to House Music at 11 in the morning!!!! If they do it in Chicago (i.e., B-96, even on V-103 and Kiss 103.5), I KNOW they certainly do it in NYC!!! It CAN also be sold to advertisers.
