How many more gadgets do people need before they accept that they're bored with life? You have terrestrial radio, satellite radio, ipods, online radio, your own CDs, etc, etc & they still can't find what they want. Read a book!
But with the direction we're going then it's time for some stations to accept that they may be able to compete with other stations, but not with the rest of technology. So go for the audience not prone to do backflips to be sure at any given moment they hear a song they like. I don't mean geriatrics here. I mean normal people who listen to the radio & indulge in a little technology at home with their computers. Forget the crazies who change their ring tones every week & do all but have their cells surgically implanted to their skulls. If you're playing to this kind of audience, you cannot compete. The fact that these people are involved with all this means they do not want radio. Yes I know going after a demo that still cares about radio means the agencies won't like the audience you end up with. Then screw the agencies & hire a sales staff that can sell. The audience for radio is out there. Radio just doesn't want it.
