'The Voice' alum Christina Grimmie dies after concert shooting

Christina Grimmie, a former contestant on The Voice, was fatally shot at a concert Friday night.

Orlando Police responded to a call at the Plaza Live venue at about 10:20 p.m. ET on Friday, where they found Grimmie injured, the Orlando police department said in a statement.

Grimmie performed with the band Before You Exit at the venue and she stayed after the event to sign autographs for fans, when police say a man approached the singer and shot her. He was tackled by Grimmie's brother, and during that struggle, the suspect fatally shot himself, according to police.

Grimmie was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries. Heather Weiss, Grimmie's rep, confirmed her death late Friday night:

"It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that Christina has passed and went home to be with the Lord. She was shot at her show in Orlando and, unfortunately, didn't survive the gun shot wounds. We ask at this time that you respect the privacy of her family and friends in their time of mourning."

The performer competed on the sixth season of The Voice on Adam Levine's team, and before that began posting videos of her songs on YouTube as a teenager.

Tragic . I had never heard of her until today since I am not a fan of the Voice or her genre of music, but this kind of thing crosses all genres sadly :-(

it's a horrible tragedy and it reminds me a lot of when Dimebag Darrell from Pantera & Damageplan was killed on stage on Dec. 8, 2004 at Alrosa Villa in Columbus. i guess Plaza Live, the venue of this tragedy did not learn the lessons of what happened that dark and tragic night in 2004 at the Alrosa Villa or at Le Bataclan in Paris, France on November 13, 2015 during the Paris Terrorist attacks and that lesson is, have strong security and metal detectors at the venue and have security/local law enforcement (the city/town police department, county's sheriff's department, state police from the state, ETC.)

meanwhile, the Orlando Police Department has identify her killer as Kevin James Loibl, a 27 year old man from St. Petersburg, FL who had 2 loaded handguns, 2 loaded magazine, and a hunting knife on him when he killed her and then fatally wounded himself after being tackled by her brother. he did not know her personally and Orlando PD said he was a deranged fan or as i call it, a stalker with the "if i can't have you, no one will" mindset.
