"The Voice of Arizona"? um...no...not the "voice of Arizona"

The voice of Ramsey (who syndicates from out of state) and the voice of hosts and producers who talk amongst themselves at the exclusion of any call-ins and since the "breaking news" brand didn't really stick (not even for the passing of the first guy to walk on the moon-!), so now it's "the Voice of Arizona," too. Just not the voice of ALL ARIZONANS, since Bonneville doesn't do listener call-ins anymore, nor do they allow that many comments on their "new" web site.

Somebody, please flip 92.3 to sports or something else already and leave the "real" talk radio to 550 and 960.

...is this "Voice of Arizona" the same bunch of Chuck Harder wannabe crackpots that infested the KPHX weekend schedule under that title when I worked there in '07-'08?...

Sounds to me like KTAR is trying to replicate WGN's slogan, which is, "The Voice of Chicago." The difference? WGN actually has 24/7 local talk radio hosts and takes calls from listeners (even after Cubs games, unlike Arizona Sports 620 after Diamondbacks games). There is no comparison here in my eyes, WGN is a true heritage talk station. KTAR? They're confused as to their identity. Just listen to their new opener. They state how they're the Voice of Arizona, but also throw in how they're also Arizona's Breaking News and Traffic. Which one is? Choose one and go with it.

WGN as "The Voice of Chicago" = Yes. KTAR as "The Voice of Arizona" = NO WAY!

KTAR is the Voice of Ramsey and the Voice of Mac & Cheese. Post-7pm (after Mac & Cheese sign off), there's no 'Voice of Arizona' and no 'breaking news.' The fact that they pretty much IGNORED our state's primary for most of the night - and no breaking news about Hurricane Isaac hitting landfall - doesn't bode well for their inevitable, equally non-existent "Election Night" coverage. Bonneville should be hanging their head in shame at what they have done to KTAR: declining cumes and demos that don't exactly match who they're billing. KTAR's programming decisions of late make 103.9's look genius by comparison.

That decision made as much sense as having to log in 12 times a day to read the latest posting on Radio-Info Discussions!

Primary election results are a TV/Internet story to the very few who actually care about the results. We can't berate TMISU too much for deciding to run Ramsey instead of boring poll results. But the Nurse and I agree - their live newscasts after 7pm are rather vacuous. And wassup with Lou Romano exclaiming "..people are rushing to the polls" an hour after they closed? Is anyone in mgmt listening at night?

I have found that it is very difficult to listen to the hosts LECTURE the listeners on topics. Most of these hosts are inexperienced in the topics they cover (child rearing; marriage, etc.) most of the hosts are single or if they have children they are infants. The only exception is Karrie Dozier.

It is funny to hear Karrie Dozier try & relate to people that are just barely getting by considering that she is married to Rick Dozier.

KTAR hosts take no calls or rarely have guests (unless it's Megan McCain) They ramble on & on, talking over each other. It's awful.

On another note...Rumour going around is that Tim & Willie may be joining KTAR? if so, who will be bumped?

Nothin' wrong with being rich, or trying to relate to others (unless you're Juan Williams). ;D

What the Nurse and I found annoying about Chuck & The Chick today was their monologue on the upcoming Neil Diamond concert. Chuck was thinking of going, not because he's into Diamond's music, but because the 71 year old crooner is a legend. Karie chimes in and sez her husband took her to see Neil Diamond four years ago in Glendale and some old geezer who looked like Barry Goldwater sat behind them. And to sound even more relevant to the young audience Chuck & The Chick are trying to reach, Karie said the old fart behind her was on oxygen. Chuck guffaws and they go to a commercial by a guy 10 years older than Neil Diamond - Tex Earnhardt.

And that ain't no bull!

The most annoying thig about chuck & Karrie is that they constantly laugh while the other is finishing talking. It is clearly a manufactured laugh. Nothing funny about what they are saying. It's like listening to a Sleep America commercial where they laugh while they are talking.
Gawd awful.

Take some phone calls or something, please stop lecturing the listeners!

And what's really annoying is that Clear Channel's KFYI convention coverage has been exemplary compared to KTAR's non-existent coverage. At risk of sounding like McKenzie on HBO's "The Newsroom," Bonneville's really sticking it to the very demos they should be helping - which, in turn, harms our nation, since they (KTAR) have made it abundantly clear that "the Voice of Arizona" cares more about Ramsey and sports simulcasts. Time for KTAR to seriously consider flipping. Their concept of "talk radio" just gets more and more surreal.

In addition to calling theyselves "The Voice Of Arizona", KTweetAR is calling theyselves "The Voice Of (insert name of metro city here). The Voice of Anthem..The Voice of Goodyear...The Voice of Scottsdale...etc. When they get to The Voice of Buckeye, they may hear from the voice of the Media Hut regarding copyright infringement ;)

Got Dewey, Cheatem & Howe PC on retainer do ya Doc?

The Voice of Dave Ramsey, which they seem to replay old shows over & over.
His show is becoming boring & his advice is always the same.

Advice to Single dad with 3 kids that is having financial trouble: "Sell your dependable late model car that you have payments on, get an old beater & deliver pizzas at night"

No one ever asks him "How much money will I sink into keeping that old beater running by nightly delivering pizzas...and what am I supposed to do with my kids?
As Dr. Phil would say "Whaaat were you Think-un?""

Put the little gremlins ;) in the back seat and take 'em with you while delivering for Papa John. They'll be feelin' better than they deserve when you get back home!

Agreed....Dave Ramsey has taken the place of Dr Laura for an annoying, self righteous radio blabbermouth.

Now go take on the day.

Hand them each a flashlight to do their homework.

It's called cutting off your nose to spite your face! All I know about Dave Ramsey is what I read on these boards and that's all I need to know! Never listened to him and never will!

Ramsey will likely lose his New York clearance once CC takes control of WOR. I doubt NY listeners are losing sleep over it! :)

This is, for the most part, right on point.

How can you be the "voice of Arizona" when you have ten hours of syndicated programming per day, limited evening and overnight news/weather/traffic coverage and refuse to allow any Arizona voices on your airwaves via phone calls? KTAR (both FM and AM) are disgraceful examples of news/talk and sports talk (respectively).

The small marketesque sound to most of the hosts on KTAR is one thing, but to completely shut out the entire listener base from any discussion is simply counter-productive to the entire idea of talk radio. "The voice of Arizona"? More like "We talk, you listen".

Video may not have killed the radio star, but radio is doing a Hell of a job killing itself. People my age don't listen to the radio anymore and stations give us little incentive to tune in, it's as if they're happy fighting for the 50+ crowd.

This business has far too many James Ismay types telling us "there's no trouble here, this ship can't sink, move along nothing to see here!" Okay then, keep pushing listeners away, keep insulting their intelligence and keep doing the same things you've been doing and see where it gets you ultimately.

More importantly, how can you be "breaking news" when you never actually - you know, interrupt regular programming to break news? There's no "breaking news" on KTAR. None whatsoever. KFYI simulcast all of the major speeches of the RNC and will likely simulcast all of the major speeches from the DNC. KTAR, the Voice of Arizona "breaking news" station (ha ha ha), didn't and won't. #KTARFAIL

The other night the Nurse and I had nothing better to do than catch Dave Ramsey being better than he deserved on KTweetAR. On the half hour it was Lou Romano and local news, which consisted of an ABC story on the Chicago teacher strike. Then traffic and weather together.

That was it. The newscast lasted less than sixty seconds at the most. One lousy story about something just about no one in the Valley cares about!

Jeez...what's next? It's 9 o'clock at the Voice of Arizona Labor, WCFL Chicago ??? ???

...and yet people on this board will still defend the station.

I'd say KTAR has phoned it in, but we know they don't bother with phones anymore. Maybe they just tweet it in, e-mail it in... facebook it in. I don't know. They have absolutely given up on quality and it shows.
