The "Voice" of Elmo Resigns from Sesame Street

Even as a kid, I always sort of *knew* there was something creepy and perverted about that evil squeaky voice. Thanks for confirming my suspicions.....

I always thought it would be Barney the Dinosaur that would have bones buried in a shallow crawlspace in his basement.
Elmo was annoying from the get go.

Bring back the Yip-Yips!
YIPYIPYIPYIPYIPYIPYIPYIPYIP!

I speak for the majority of this board when I recommend that Sesame Street should either "retire" Elmo (have him "move out to the country to his grandmother's farm" a la David), or have him make occasional appearances similar to when he first appeared on the Street around 1985, after the Clash scandal. Sesame Street has plenty of replacement sketches/characters in their archives that they could bring back to replace Elmo's World (e.g., classic Bert and Ernie with Oz and Henson, Super Grover, Fat Blue/Waiter Grover, etc.) or return the focus to the different Street characters like in the old days.

Oh wait, Sesame Workshop has already arranged for understudies to take over Elmo's role: :p :p

Also, before joining Sesame Street, and right out of high school, Clash was a puppeteer on Captain Kangaroo:

Jerry Sandusky was just the tip of the iceberg.

Prepare to be horrified, America.

I'm not sure what to make of this whole thing.

The "kid" now is grown and seems to be on fishing expedition into a few wallets. He has poor credibility, but on the other hand, the "You can't rape a whore" defense, doesn't work anymore.

I never was overly fond of Elmo as I felt he took too much time away from the other characters.

But as Eric Davidson of the great Aussie soap opera "Prisoner" said, "In this job not only is it important to BE honest, you must be SEEN to be honest. And at all times. Your actions cannot be left open to interpretation."

As has been pointed out, Sesame has already invested so much in the net worth of Elmo (the second half of each show now being devoted to the character) that they'll have to ride it out with a new hand up Elmo's - well, you get the idea...
