There Is More To Spanish Urban Music Than Reggaetón

You mean the Control Machete, Molotov type thing? Pitbull? In any case, essentially none of that stuff is liked by reggaetón partisans. There are a few tunes, but most of it does not enter the range of acceptability.

I was thinking like Orishas (Grammy winners), Sindicato Argentino Del Hip-Hop (also grammy winners), Don Dinero, etc. I'm not saying dump all the music into the playlist, but come on... Control Machete opened these doors up...

None of that stuff researches anywhere in the US. It is very limited appeal. Enough to fill a club, but not for the needed cume of a radio staiton.
 
You know cant belive to that the biggest musical movemnet in the world, making it pop buggest culture doenst have "one" song good enough for radio play on La Kalle or any other Hurbano format station. As far as i know there are alot more kids into Hip-Hop in spanish speaking nations than reggeaton.

I see very few Spanish hip hop songs charting areound Latin America. I see lots of reggaetón songs. Cuarenta Principles in Colombia has about a third reggaetón this week, the top 10 in Chile is nearly 50% reggaetón, and the same all over the Caribbean basin.

In surveys I do for Exitos Express, there is 0% interest in Spanish hip hop but huge interest in getting the latest reggaetón each week in this radio station new release service that is in weekly edition 632 today.

Spanish hip hop is a very niche movement, even more niche than Spanish rock, the verified non-format of the last two decades. Reggaetón is replacing or supplementing pop all over Latin America, with astounding sales. Spanish hip ho is just rapping in Spanish... reggaetón is a unique reflection of Latino culture.
 
Dude you can call it what you will, but I have lists of miles long of Hip-Hop Artist from Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, etc. I can name groups / artist by the 100 in each latin country, if reggaton was sooo big in all latin culture and bigger than Hip-Hop where are the reggaton artist from Argentina at?? I know of one in the works, but non yet.

And if we talking about US radio, well CHR and Hurban wouldnt be goin' up agaiest each other if Latinos didnt support Hip-Hop. Its stupid to leave out spanish rap on a spanish urban format station

There are plenty fo acts. None of them sells much of anything, which is why so very few are heard of outside of their own countries. And very few get even local airply, as can be seen from the charts on the pop and contemporary stations.

Just about all the reggaetón artists are from Puerto Rico or NY or Miami at present. Just as jsut about all the 70's ballad stars were from Spain... or all the early Cumbia stars from Colombia. The fact is that reggaetón outsells Latin Hip hop by a factor of several hundred to one. There has never been a Latin Hip hop album to make top 10 in Soundscan in the US... yet dozens of reggaeton productions have.

When given a choice, young Hispanics either lean to Enlgish hip hop or to Spanish reggaeton. There is no in-between. I have never seen a Latin Hip Hop song research outside of Culo by Pitbull, which is mostly, as we all know, driven by the lyric rather than the thythm.

The real issue is that there is no indicationa that there is any significant Hispanic interest in any of htis radio being played on the radio.

Hurban is a bad name used by one company, Clear Channel. Most of the staitons in the US now are reggaetón stations, where Hip Hop has no place. These are not Spanish uban stations, they are reggaetón stations. Just as a salsa station in PR will not play cumbia, Latin Hip hop does not fit reggaetón stations.

This is a small imprint out of the huge effort being put into reggaetón. They do not have any radio hits anywhere. So far, about the only thing out is a Nicky Jam set, which is getting nowhere.
