The FCC is light years behind in the processing of applications for radio and TV stations and now that they have grown tired of "Boob-Gate", the FCC now wants to review tapes of sports events for indecency. This is from All Access:
Report: FCC Combing Sports, News Tapes for Indecency
"The Hollywood Reporter reports that the FCC is asking for tapes of numerous live news and sports programs in order to look for indecent remarks from athletes, fans and interviewees. The tapes requested include football and NASCAR TV broadcasts in which someone may have said an audible expletive.
A TV executive told the Reporter that "it looks like they want to end live broadcast TV" while another anonymous executive said "I don't know how they are going to rule, but they asked us for tapes with a specific emphasis on crowd noise.... If some bozo in the crowd calls the ref an [EDIT], the commission is asking for a copy of the tape.""
I think it is well past time for the FCC to get down to the business of processing radio and TV applications and not concern itself with old tapes of sporting events where there may be an obscenity audible. No wonder so little work comes out of the FCC offices. The timely processing of applications from radio and TV stations is what we are paying the FCC to accomplish, not try and find a cuss word from some old sporting event. When it comes to handling the daily matters that the commission was set up to do, it appears that FCC stands for "[EDIT] Couldn't Care".
