This TV is history in MSP; Antenna TV coming June 14th.

I don't think this was on anyone's radar, but ThisTV loses and Antenna TV gains an affiliate in Minneapolis/St. Paul this Thursday (!) June 14th.

Thoughts? Gut reaction is that it's an upgrade.

Damn right it's an upgrade.

Antenna shows seem to be a little older than Me-TV. We had Me-TV first and I thought it was
pretty good............now that we have Antenna also, it's quite similar. I actually watch each
about 50-50 when I'm watching retro.

I take it they could not get ME because somebody already has it. Antenna is then the best
choice in my book. They may also have been pi$$ed that they could not add ME on .3 because
someone else on a similar station was able to give it .2.

I'm sure many folks around that area of Minnesota are going to miss programs such as "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" and "The Busy World of Richard Scarry (both of them are my favorite programs from ThisTV) when ThisTV programming is no longer available locally. Those programs should be released in their entirety on DVD some day (the original Japanese version of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" is available in its entirety all ready).

Whoa whoa whoa ...

Hubbard Broadcasting owns two stations in MSP: 5 and 45 (or RF 35 and 45).

Apparently the new line up is:

5.1 ABC affiliate
5.2 Channel 45 programming (it has been 45.1, currently it is 5.45)
5.3 ME (stays put)
5.4 Antenna (replacing This)*
5.6 This (new spot)
45.5 News reruns. (used to be 5.2)

Yikes.

*Because "This" is moving to 5.6, Antenna gets This's spot on cable. Kinda sneaky.

One more point: Hubbard owns 5/45. Tribune owned Antenna. Hubbard expressed interest in buying Tribune.

Discuss.

...same thing happened on the Time Warner Cable system in California's Antelope Valley when KTLA/v5 Los Angeles put Antenna on 5.2 and bumped This to 5.3. Antenna is on Channel 139 of TWC in the A.V., while neither ME or This are anywhere to be seen...

Wright County Guy, where did you learn about ThisTV programming being moved to a new channel for KSTC-TV and Antenna TV programming taking its spot? If this is true, some folks may need to use an antenna to get ThisTV programming if they can't get it on cable TV.

...and the Antelope Valley (Lancaster, Palmdale, Acton, California City, Mojave) is in between the Los Angeles and Bakersfield markets but can't pick up either market OTA...

WOW, channel 5 could possibly be the largest network affiliate with such a DEEP list of sub channels.
Most are only at the .2 or .3 level. GRAND PRIZE goes to 5!!!!

Holy Channels, Batman!

This is from the AVS board, posted by a Hubbard employee:

5-1 KSTP @ 720p on RF 35 (Main ABC Feed)
5-2 KSTC @ 720p on RF 45 (ind.)
5-3 MeTv @ 480i on RF 45
5-4 AntennaTv @ 480i on RF 45
5-5 Reserved
5-6 ThisTv @ 480i on RF 45
5-7 LiveWell (future) @ 720P on RF 35 (much of the nature programming is 720p and we want to pass that along as 720p but will adjust as required when sports are on 5-1)
5-50, 52, 54, & 56 MDTV channels on RF 35 (at 400k video rate for mobile devices)

So Hubbard now wants to try their hand at running dual HD programming. ABC is already running Livewell Network & the main ABC network in 720p HD. For at least WLS-TV, Livewell Network looks horrible at slight fast movements on some programs. Looks like this will be the first Livewell affiliate to run Livewell Network in HD, outside of the ABC O&O stations.

WCIU in Chicago has 4 subchannels along with the main channel in 720p HD. I however think WPVN-CD Aurora/Chicago, IL will beat that, should they add more subchannels from Luken. WPVN-CD also runs all channels in 480i SD, which doesn't affect them as much.

I was talking about MAIN NETWORK AFFILIATES (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC). We have 2 "others" here in
Atlanta with 10 or more subs. I believe California has a similar station also.

Does six subchannels even work? I bet it's like trying to download video on your
dial-up modem in the 90's.

KSTP owns 2 stations in the market so its not all off the same station. There are 2 RF stations (35 & 45). Here is the list

5-1 KSTP @ 720p on RF 35 (Main ABC Feed)
5-2 KSTC @ 720p on RF 45 (ind.)
5-3 MeTv @ 480i on RF 45

AntennaTV is now on 5-4
Also on 5-7 they have a slate that says "Enjoy this great programming" and shows the channel # and what programming (like 5.4 Antenna TV, 5.3 MeTV)

My condolences Minneapolis/St Paul.
The Livewell Network is absolute garbage and a waste of the high def bandwidth it "requires".
You'll never watch it but it's effects will be bit starving the main channel you likely will watch with some form of regularity.

LWN can't be making any money anywhere, unless the 5-6 hours of infomercials they air every day keeps it afloat. I'm waiting for the day when ABC figures out that it isn't the money maker that they thought it was going to be, and shut it down, freeing many subchannels for worthwhile programming.

But in doing so, they use two stations -- KSTP and KSTC. The local pubcaster, Twin Cities Public Television, also uses a single "channel", 2, over two stations, KTCA and KTCI. Though in that case, they only have four subchannels between them.
