Re: THOM HARTMANN RATINGS IMPRESSIVE GROWTH IN LA, SFO, SEA, DEN, PHX, DET, DENV
Actually, Dale...I don't want to see you or anyone fail, hard as this may be to believe.
And your reaction to my posts was exactly the reaction I was seeking. As usual, it worked...as it has against a number of ultra-conservative bloggers here in Ohio.
You can even ask The Wall Street Journal about my ability to fight back. When an Oklahoma City blogger named William Kerr outed the name of a Congressional page associated with the Mark Foley scandal, little did he expect that I would find a picture of his little boy through a simple Google search. And I posted it, with a commentary on how Kerr hurt the efforts of my co-workers in law enforcement in finding and apprehending sexual predators who prey on minors. The Bureau of Motor Vehicles, whom I work for, and the State Highway Patrol are both part of the Ohio Department of Public Safety.
When I informed a couple of Patrol investigators of what I did, one had just heard Rush Limbaugh make fun of the Congressional page.
The same Rush Limbaugh that airs on your station.
The same Rush Limbaugh that airs here in Columbus on the station that no longer airs local news after 6 p.m. The station has been losing advertisers, and a number of veteran broadcasters at the station have become casualties over the years. Among the most notable was Steve "Boom Boom" Cannon, whose success in a career spanning three decades was in offering fascinating guests (non-political) interspersed with trivia contests. When the station went political, his show suffered and he was replaced by a tape-delayed Sean Hannity.
The only other local talkers in Columbus on weekdays talked sports. That was until about a month ago when WVKO started "What's What with Mike Cole," featuring local politicians, community leaders, educators and media people discussing real issues. And listeners are finding the station from a cross-section of Columbus.
Simply put...I have no desire to see you fail, Dale. But you would not be able to find work in Columbus doing political talk. As for me, I was in radio when the likes of Jay Marvin and Michael Jackson were the dominant talkers on the airwaves, when "serving the public interest" actually meant something. And due to the Telecommunications Act of 1996, there is no way you can separate business from politics when it comes to this format, thanks to what companies like Clear Channel have done to it.
If you feel that any of my comments were out of line, I can only apologize for offending or hurting you. But I can't apologize for making them. If your ambition is to become the next Limbaugh or Hannity or Glenn Beck, you will have to get used to dealing with the likes of me.
Most of the businesses who advertise on WVKO do not advertise on other radio stations. They support the format, and they are out to attract customers who listen to it because they are most likely to buy their products or services. In my case, it's environmentally friendly cleaning products. And these advertisers are very familiar with the shows where their commercials air. They like the shows, and they know in the long-term their fellow listeners will become customers.
There are things more important than profits, Dale. Columbus is our home, and the advertisers on WVKO see our support of the station as reinvesting in our community and the future of local radio that serves our community. The national hosts that we promote--Ed Schultz, Stephanie Miller and Bill Press (Jones Radio)--get it. Steph will be here March 1, Big Eddie wants to make a return visit, and we are sure to get Bill here before the year is out.
Having said all that...it should be clear that my not advertising with your station is strictly business. Nothing personal. And if it takes having to dish out an equivalent amount of bullsh-t to get the message across, we will not hesitate to do it. It's not something I enjoy, but it always works.
Enough said.
Dale Jackson said:ABQTom said:Ouch! You mean this guy reps Peter B (a great talent whom I know from the Bay Area) and can't read an ARB? This is a guy who cross posted my comments on Hartman's board leading people to think I got him blown out? Hmmm. That's sad. Really sad. Well, if I'm ever asked about Peter B I'll be sure and pass this info on. In fact maybe I should post it on my blog? Hey, Tom Lane now everyone knows who you are. Thanks Dale. I owe you one.

DALE AND JAY.........
Reposting company names and full names sent in private *CONFIDENTIAL* e-mails is against the terms of service, you acts of retaliation are childish and will accomplish nothing.
However, it could backfire on Dale and Jay, if my company (or, Peter. B.'s company) gets more inquiries. Remember......Peter B. is Thom's regular substitute host. And....we are gaining on Air America and Jones, including Jay's buddy and Kris's favorite host on 760, Ed Schultz.
What if the new 760 pm drive host gets low ratings? Well...we're next in line, LIVE M-F 3p-6p PT.
Nevertheless, I have written the moderator to ask that my name and company name be deleted, although there really is no such thing as bad publicity.
Jay, your comments here are unfortunate. Hundreds have read your attacks on me, and I didn't start any of this.
Meanwhile, Thom and Peter B. are both fully aware of what is going on here, and would fully defend my position if they chose to login and post.
So what can I say? We welcome further inquiries to the Peter B. Collins show.
Thanks for the promotion.
See ya,
-T
It may and I hope it does, there are only two people on these boards hoping for other people's failure,
1. You with Jay Marvin
2. Sean Gilbow with Me
The rest of us get this is about business not politics.
