Thoughts on the next few months of radio?

ShadowB, how true when you said, "No one is teaching the art of radio now!" But that's not just in radio. I worked retail in between radio gigs in the early 90's, and my manager taught me a lot on how to deal with customers. These days, when I run through a drive-thru for a bite, employees don't smile, they don't tell you your change - they just hand it to you, and they don't look at you when they say thank you. They don't even pretend they like their job. Either because they didn't have a solid manager, or even more likely, some f-'ing consultant told them it wasn't important to do that anymore. Radio and McDonald's should be on the same level soon! "May I take your order?" "Yes, I'd like a Bee Gee Burger, some Falco fries, a Sgt. Pepper Dr. Pepper, and a Monday Monday Sunday. And dedicate it to my kids, because that's all I can afford."

And Tibbs, you cracked about the demise of radio being an "inside job". Sad, funny, ironic, and true, all at the same time.

Where is Romer?

why...what have you heard?

You have been way to quiet lately. I was beginning to think you were the alter-ego of Scott...

Chris was "Born To Be Alive"......cira 1979, Majik 13, WMAK, Yes Tibbs, that song Rock, I have the long version Chris played downloaded on my mp3 player.

Ego......MMMMMM, I don't buy Lottery Tickets either. I wouldn't waste my money IF Lew Dickey offered 92Q to me at a great price! I'll stay in my little cubby hole at the BIG MAGIC 1560, playing Hot AC, and watching Rachael Ray!

I want to go on WMRO and play "Born To Be Alive" and send it out to Chris Romer of the BIG 98!

I ran into Lisa Manning last night and she asked me if I missed radio. I miss the way it was when I first got into it WAY back in the 80's but not now! I do miss working with a lot of talented radio vets on a project. I do miss talking up an intro. I do miss interacting with the listeners. And yes I do miss the ego rush of being on the air. But for me those days are behind me now. I have talked with a few stations about getting back on the air but the pay is below low! One station was paying 12.00 an hour up to 35 hours. They call it "Full part time". Others 10 an hour to voice track. Takes about an hour to voice a show now so I would end up loosing money! Not worth the time. And one station even wanted to talk to be about a PD job....Thanks but no thanks! I don't have "IT" in me anymore.
Those of us who are out of radio work are doing what ever it takes to make money and to tell you the truth I have done just fine mowing yards in the summer and working at Publix in the fall and winter. A lot less stress. Sure it's a blow to the ego to run into some of my old work mates but you have to do what you have to do to put food on the table!
I think the next few months will be very hard for those IN radio. So tell us, do you have a back up plan? And if you have been put out of radio what are you doing to make ends meet?
