Throwing off a whole bunch of dead air this AM, now back on the air

This morning, I noticed dead air on Movin' 92.5 and KWJZ. It's back on as of 9:06AM this morning, but between 6:45AM and 9, it was dead air. Why? I don't think it's the transmitter overheating. The weird thing is I saw KKNW, KIXI and Warm still playing their tunes or talk.

Once again, both are back on as of 9:06AM.

Maybe the chief engineer overheated.

In any case you get the prize for "most ambiguous thread title" on the R-I Seattle board. Congrats.

That's not weird at all. KQMV and KWJZ are both up at TIGER Mountain. KRWM is on COUGAR Mountain, and KIXI and KKNW both have their own sites in Bellevue. So if you take that into account, it all adds up to a TX site/ TSL issue.

Oh, yeah. Duh! Forgot about transmitters!

No Problem! ;)

Oh, and I totally meant "STL" not "TSL" (Though i'm sure TSL was affected quite a bit)
... my bad!

Update:

I heard KQMV and KWJZ off AGAIN this morning around 1:00. Wonder what's been going on off of Hwy 18 at Tiger...

So I'm curious, do you work for a living? Or is it your hobby to dial around and see who is on the air or not at a given time?

I wonder if he does Internet Stations too because the service I am using now doesn't give me such detailed report as in this thread ;D

Tsk! Tsk! Tsk! And THIS is how radio "gurus" talk to their listeners? This condescendingly? Shame on you.....

Hell, I'd be grateful for a guy like him if I had a station some serious DX-miles away and he picked it up. I'd even send him some station logo emblazoned stickers and t-shirts....

Be cool......

I was waiting for a shuttle to pick me up to go to the hotel that I thought I'd be staying at, but it never came. I fell asleep about 10:30, woke up t 1am and heard 98.9 and 92.5 off.

Actually I only find the need of writing condescendingly when it comes to you Bong. ;) In reality I was indeed curious, as Crainbo is the first one to jump on this board and ask what happened to a particular station, whether commercial or non-com where very few even notice. How someone could be scanning the dial waiting for and findiing a technical glitch lasting even a moment, no matter what the format, is a curious hobby. I figured either Crainbo has a lot of time on his or her hands, or is in some sort of situation that allows them to monitor and scan the airwaves 24/7.

I'd be flattered if someone would come down my way and take over my job. I listen to my stations regularly, and specifically for stop sets, bad timing, dated spots, dead air. When I wake up to take a pee, I punch up all five before go back to bed.

No money budgeted for the position, but could be monthly prize forf whoever catches the most ooops.

hey crainbo, you got a websight? it'be interesting to eyeball all them AM signals you done picked up from bothell town. i used to do that AM DXing in the mid/late 70's as a kid. nice to know a fellow radio nerd is still at it......

a few weeks ago, i ran a rental truck at night w/o XM for a week. i spent much of the nightly run enjoying classic country CKMX 1060, coming in loud and proud from calgary, alberta. great father and daughter morning show on CKMX too. very impressed listening to a normal, non contrived, non force fed laugher ass clown morning show. wow, normal working people with good radio talent, we can relate to on the radio...what an odd concept . prob wouldnt work on a seattle market country station huh?......

Well, I am kind of flattered how you spend so much time on me. Here you are, such a "guru", such a "professional" in your field and you STILL don't have anything BETTER to do than.....

I forwarded your comments to Jimmy & Jodi Hughes .. the team in Calgary. Jimmy and I are old friends and I know he will appreciate your comments. They really ARE good people!

Did anybody in the South Sound get 92.3 & 98.7 from Portland while those two stations were off the air? But if you happen to get every Seattle station off the air, then the stations from either Portland or Vancouver, B.C., will come in from full blast wherever you go. Is that pure science?

On many hilltops, you'll discover a whole new, albeit ghosty, FM dial hiding underneath these Seattle blasters. But in the lowlands, not quite so much. Most of the big Portland and Vancouver, BC stations run at the full 100,000 watts and that's why you can often hear them with a very good radio on Puget Sound hilltops....

Yes, you'll probably get them, Full blast? Maybe not.....

cool mr. blue! please do forward my comments!
yes, you all can pick up CKMX 1060 AM and the jimmy and jodi hughes show from clagary, in western WA. starts at 5 AM our time, and fades out with daylight. it may seem hard to believe to some of the AM radio "doom and gloomers" on this board, but AM country radio is alive, living and still relevant in some places.
go ahead, give it a try............don't worry, your FM wolf howl countrypolitan jive, will still be there waitin" when CKMX fades out with daylight.
