Tik Tok under fire over the handling of the Benadryl Challenge

In an era of disinformation, this article talks about the toxicity of Benadryl in high doses. But this is coming into play as many social media venues are under fire for failing for catching some of the disinformation in relations to Snake oil and COVID-19 that's been leading up to deaths and it's going beyond the capacity of how Social media enforce safety in their TOS as they are also being flooded with snake oil sales pitch being posted by political leaders.
 
The brings into question the purpose of a social media site. The current administration believes that if a site points out disinformation, it should lose its protection from lawsuits. That's what the social media executive order is all about. So here's a site that's playing the game the way the administration says is right, and they're under fire because they're owned by China.

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – The latest in a growing number of dangerous social media challenges may have resulted in the tragic death of a metro teenager.

Last week, a 15-year-old girl reportedly died from an overdose of Benadryl.

Described by those who cared about her as an otherwise happy and faith-driven teen, she was not one to experiment with drugs.

However, she fell victim to what’s been called the Benadryl Challenge on Tik Tok.

The challenge is to trip out, or hallucinate, after taking a dozen or more doses of the pill.

“The dose that can cause a hallucination is very close to the dose that can cause something potentially life-threatening,” said Scott Schaeffer, director of the Oklahoma Center for Poison and Drug Information.

The challenge was blamed for the hospitalization of at least three teens in Fort Worth, Texas, back in May.

The problem here is disinformation coming from politicians and snake oil salesman that post things like Benadryl Challenge. In the past we went after Tik Tok's competitors for the same thing. Its not Tik Tok's fault here but they are having to respond to multiple cases of disinformation like their competitors but that requires the FDA, WHO and CDC to address that issue in all Social Media venues at their front page.
