Time Warner Removing WSTM for WPTZ in Ogdensburg and Gouverneur

Looks like they are going to fiber it over for all of St. Lawrence county now. Apparently, they told customers they wouldnt have to pay for copyright fees (like they do for WSTM). So the era of Syracuse TV in the North Country is just about over (except for Watertown's TW coverage).

THAT explains why they had to fire Don Lark. All that icing on the cake from being able to tell advertisers they're carried on cable up north... gone! Along with Lark's salary. :p

I find it hard to believe that Ogdensburg, NY is significantly viewed (even though its St. Lawrence county). One...WPTZ can barely be picked up Potsdam via antenna (30 miles away), Two...after the digital switch, WPTZ will be a non-entity in St. Lawrence COunty since no one will be able to pick it up on an off-air antenna.

This topic is a bit old but has a new twist...TW apparently reconsidered after opposition to drop WSTM from Ogdensburg's lineup. The interesting twist is now that they are carrying both WSTM (Ch 5) and WPTZ (Channel 6). I suspect the additional cost to carry both is minimal to none...

Either that or they are conditioning the Ogdensburg residents to WPTZ...to delete WSTM at a future date. ;)
