Kind of interesting to look at some of the items on this page:
http://www.bostonradio.org/timeline.html
>>1989 WBOS-FM drops country (Apr. 27)
...just before the big "country revival" (Garth Brooks, etc.) kicked in. AM 1510 flipped TO country, though.
>> 1983 WBOS-FM switches from rock to country music (Jul. 14)
Described in Boston Rock as "The day The Boss became The Hoss"
>> 1991 WLVG sold at auction to Bob Bittner (July 1)
Yay! WJIB!
>> 1994 WHDH expires, WEEI programming moves to 850 (Aug. 29)
Flush!
>> 1968 Concert Network disbanded, WBCN drops classical music
Result: "progressive rock", Chuck L. and the Biiiiiiiiiiiig Mattress, Parenteau, Ken Shelton,
Maxanne, Jerry Goodwin, and so many others. The Woofa Goofa, too (and the Duane Ingalls
Glasscock parade during the 'BCN strike)
And there have been so many other interesting moments in Boston radio history, like the day that
WNFT 1150 changed formats briefly. They were simulcasting WAAF but the cleaning crew
switched what they thought was simply a radio in the control room to a station more of
their liking (Jam'n 94.5), not realizing they were switching what the station was airing.
And of course you can go to earlier times
>> 1954 Hurricane Carol knocks down WBZ-TV tower, behind the studios on Soldiers Field Road
