TNA may move Impact to Monday Nights to compete with WWE Raw

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118015194.html?categoryid=14&cs=1

It's not official til about 1:30 cst. but it's the plan that I think has been coming for five years now.

With a name base talent (Hogan, Flair, Foley, Bischoff, Angle) and some veteran in-house stars (Styles, Joe, Daniels) the time is now for them to compete with WWE.

That being said the WWE may not care less about it, as they plan to launch NXT to replace the faltering ECW brand on Syfy as well as launching a new network in 2011.

But if this becomes a success for TNA, I would think that they would try their best to focus on making Raw a better show than it is now.

The guest host gimmick is a hit or miss at times for me, and the TV-PG style show can only last unless TNA beats them in the ratings on a regular basis.

However, it will not happen until at least the start of March.

So both companies have plenty of time to strategized their plans for a new monday night war ;D!

Stubborn or myopic wrestling fans with this sentiment refuse to recognize WWE's long-term efforts at attracting/keeping advertisers like Subway and Snickers. They want even bigger partners--say a Pepsi or a Chevrolet--and for ALL of their programs, not simply Monday Night Raw.

As a publicly traded company with more than just TV entertainment interests, they aren't going back to the days of 'hot lesbian action' or 'Beaver Cleavage'. They're just not.

The stupidest thing about the anti-TV-PG crowd is that they dont even know the matches themselves really havent changed. Words from the promos and the skits may have changed. If anything is different about the matches now its the fact that matches are longer now and there is no more blading or chairshots. And thats not a bad thing. Maybe its because I was watching before the TV-MA Attitude era.

There's also Linda McMahon's political aspirations keeping them going the PG route.

It's deja vu all over again!

I'm predicting "MAJOR FAIL" with this move. TNA should stay on Thursday night. Vince McMahon MAY be 'too big to fail' at this stage of his career. They're pulling in people they failed with ala' WCW almost twenty years ago, when these folks were in their prime! I do applaud TNA for trying. I surely hope things go better this time, instead of becoming the USFL/WFL/XFL etc. of pro wrestling.

I can see that the WWE may not be interested in making Raw a better program if they can get sponsors on all of their shows.

My feeling is that can the WWE stay in TV-PG mode if TNA does beat them ratings.

I would like to see both companies to go on and on and be better for it.

Watching TNA's press conference today seems that TNA will not make the same mistakes that WCW did by signing a lot of wrestlers and not use them on a regular basis.

Hulk Hogan in paticular seemed really excited by the move and I think he will really have a lot of say in the direction along with Bischoff.

I guess this means no return of Road Dogg (whose motto was "suck it") and "Bad A**" Billy Gunn!

Brian James and Monty Sopp don't own the rights to those names; the WWE does.

I realize that... But when you consider the WWE is staying the TV-PG course, well... the kind of behavior those two wrestlers exhibit isn't very family-friendly, is it?"I got two wooooooooords for ya..." ;D

also of note, this is the last night of the WWE branded ECW on Syfy.

It will be replaced by NXT, a reality show that pairs eight current WWE superstars to go up against rookies from WWE's Florida Championship Wrestling territory.

It might sound like an Amazing Race show, but anything is better than how they've turned a once good brand into AN ACTUAL developmental league. ;D

I guess this is there part to branch out to incorporate the reality show audience to their fanbase.

It won't be the first time they've tried (Tough Enough on MTV 2001-02)
