After having to endure three direct hurricanes last year in Orlando I know how the folks around New Orleans/Gulfport-Biloxi (and possibly Mobile and Pensacola) might be feeling. Katrina aims to be one of the nastiest hurricanes to ever arrive on US shores, so stay safe and seek shelter.

Man, you beat me too it. I was just about to post the same thing. But, yeah, try to stay safe down there, and if ya can, get away from it, and take a rd trip up north. If ya stay, try to keep yourself, your kids, your pets, and family safe, move to higher ground, and hold on.

Another Problem That May Arise...

Looks like we're all probably gonna get hit with even HIGHER, if not MUCH HIGHER, gas prices as a result of this hurricane. The Gulf Coast is where much of America's oil comes from.
The ramifications of higher gas prices could ultimately mean that the US will go to war with either Iran or Venezuela. Iran has been on America's (and the Western world) black list since the 1979 revolution, and even moreso after 9/11. With Iran's ambitions to become a nuclear power almost a reality, war with Iraq's neighbor to the east may become reality.
Venezuela's current president is a strong ally of Fidel Castro's Communist regime in Cuba. Conservatives are in favor of taking him out, as you might have read in the news lately.
I'm not kidding about any of this. Unless you see assembly lines for more Hybrid vehicles from the Big 3, prepare to see more wars abroad...

Local news here says to expect a 20-30 cent spike in current prices. Car gets about 25mpg on my driving... bike gets about 40-45. I'll continue taking the bike where and when I can.

And yes, when the time comes, I'll be looking hard at a hybrid. The so-called experts say the retail difference is still too high (about $4-5K for a hybrid Accord vs. a normal one) against what you save at the pump. I say let's see if that's still the case when gas starts to close in on the $4 a gallon mark (just wait till next summer, folks). Anyway, no matter what I drive, gas, hybrid, hydrogen, wind-up spring, whatever, I hope to have a banging stereo in it. Maybe internet radio will be an option in cars by then. Suh-weet!

Speaking of which, too bad Diva doesn't have a net stream... although I'd expect them to get knocked off-air sometime during the storm anyway, if they haven't already. 190 mph+ wind gusts... I can't even fathom that.
