To be country or not to be country...that is the question...

It's been about a month and a half since WPHC (formerly WXJC-FM) was scheduled to become Birmingham's 4th country station. Does anyone know if Crawford scrapped plans for another country outlet? We sure don't need another one here... ::)_________________________Radio stations come and go.Does anything last forever?www.PassTheWord.net

I asked that question of my brother-in-law this past weekend...he said he wasn't close to the project, but that it was still going to happen and it should be pretty soon.

WPHC started with "Positive Hit Country" today. I tuned into 850 around the same time; they were still playing southern gospel, so I'm guessing Wayne Wallace and the "Dixie Gospel Caravan" are going to continue on WXJC.I don't see how Crawford thinks their new country format is going to work. The country audience is already pretty well split between two stations (WZZK and "The Bull"), with "New Country 97.3" picking up the crumbs that are left over. WPHC's limited signal over Birmingham doesn't really help matters, either.________________________ Radio stations come and go.Does anything last forever?www.PassTheWord.net

I'm wondering if they won't play more towards Jasper and that area than try to get into the Birmingham market. I mean, a near non-existant signal in the south and east suburbs *AND* being the #4 country station in our market? C'mon, those Crawford guys can't be that crazy, can they? ???After all, didn't Jasper lose their only local FM station (WFFN? / 95.3) , which was country, during the last round of Frequency-Basket-Turnover? Food for thought.Oh! I just thought of something else... The station's already gone HD with multicasting... Gives Crawford a footing for getting a few more channels into the Jasper area for that one guy up there who'll get an HD-radio in the next 10 years!

Could be, I noticed that since the switch, WPHC has been ID'ing as "Cordova/Jasper/Birmingham". Prior to that time, the ID never mentioned Jasper._______________________Radio stations come and go.Does anything last forever?www.PassTheWord.net
