Tonight's 10PM Episode of WKRP on Antenna TV

I had the privilege many years ago of meeting the late great Gordon Jump. He was at an appliance store as a spokesman for Maytag. The first thing I did when I saw him was quote that line. He looked at me, chuckled, and autographed a picture.
Truly the classic episode!

Just watched it. I was going to record it, but my machine messed up. I guess I'll have to wait until it comes back around. BTW. Does anyone know if these episodes have any original music or has it been changed to generic tunes?

Dogs by Pink Floyd was playing when The Big Guy went into the DJ booth as Dr. Fever was "meditating". I know I've seen that scene with the music stripped which makes the whole sequence not make much sense when Mr. Carlson refers to hearing dogs. The episode before Turkey's Away had a Boston track so for now, I think the original music is intact. For now.

I loved it years later with the New WKRP

"The mall has a new owner now...we can go back!"
Thankfully, they were not talking about repeating the turkey drop! :D

Love Gordon Jump....bless his memory! I remember walking in to the restroom one day, and he was standing there in full makeup/costume, as Benjamin Franklin (our big studio was being used to produce a documentary). Impressive actor, not just in comedy. For a minute, I was actually "there" in the Continental Congress.

I've occasionally stumbled on an old pay stub of his, down in the KSL storage room. It always brings back some good memories of his days as an actor in WKRP and the old Maytag spots.

I saw Turkeys Away when it was shown on WGN a few years back and managed to tape it. Unfortunately I can't get Antenna TV and didn't get to see it this time.

You mean, they actually left a copyrighted song in there? Oh no! When I saw the pilot last week, I did not hear Ted Nugent or Bob Seger, whose works were heard on the original airing... Generic music just ruins the experience. I ought to take all of the songs involved that were muzzled and "remaster" the WKRP series myself. ;)

Some of the scenes I remember fondly with music. Les Nessmon putting on a curly wig while "Hot Blooded" is playing. Johnny Working the graveyard shift half asleep while Linda Ronstadt is playing. The last time I saw that episode they had cut some of that out.

BTW. Has anyone ever noticed a couple bloopers in the pilot episode. When Johnny rakes the needle across record of "Your Having My Baby" by the Halelujah Tabernacle Choir, the volume is turned down but you can still hear the needle scrape. When he starts the rock and roll record on the other turntable he bumps the turntable arm and the needle is riding on the label near the center hole but you can still hear the music playing. In the first episodes the map behind Jennefers desk says "WKRP 50,000 watts" but in later episodes it says 5,000 watts.
I also love the original opening that says, "...and the Senator, insisting that he was not intoxicated, could not explain his nudity"

Ever since Gordon Jump played that child molester on "Diff'rent Stroke," I can't visualize him as anything else.

I thought the fact that they retained "You're Having My Baby" in the original episode was a blooper in and of itself - doesn't MTM/Fox now owe whoever penned that song royalties?

...that "whoever" is Paul Anka. And, yes, they do owe him royalties...

While it is true that Johnny announced the record as "Your Having My Baby" by the Halelujah Tabernacle Choir. the acutal song being heard doesn't sound anything like the Paul Anka hit. Its just choir repeating the phrase "Your Having My Baby" I don't think the tune was the same either. I remember seeing the show when it first ran in the 70's, so I'm pretty sure thats the same version. Johnny was mocking the record while it played. If the song was completlely differnt from paul anka, then they shouldn't have to pay royalties. (besides, ifI was Paul Anka, I would burn every copy of terrible song that I could get my hands on) It was crap in 74, and it's still crap. *shuddering* everytime I hear it in my head
