Top 40 and Star coming to WNYZ-LP (87.9 FM)

I don't think the ratings folks (you know who they are) do not count the station in Alaska in their numbers. Now that there are two (New york Being a huge market). I wonder if this will change?

Wow! I hope this station on 87.7 will be competing against Z-100, a top 40 rival in New York City. Channel 6 will be broadcasting via audio on 87.7 FM. WNYZ-FM & WNYZ-TV will do the right thing before going on the air next month before this happens. "Pulse 87" will be a great idea for a Top 40/CHR competitor.

Imagine that up in the Hudson Valley, WPKF's "Kiss-FM" on 96.1 and WSPK's "K-104" are both competitors, just like the two stations that are going to launch next month. Be prepared!

Salkowitz to program/FCC links (was Top 40 and Star coming to WNYZ-LP)

Former WQHT and WTJM PD Joel Salkowitz is to be the programmer, according to Allaccess.com on 2/1/08.

This is likely to be a short-term situation, as the FCC files show a CP for a Digital Low Power television station for WNYZ, also on channel 6 that specifies construction by a date in March 2009. It has a snooze and lose provision.

The station is authorized to "flash-cut" from analog to digital.

After that happens, no more audibility on FM radios.

has links to coverage maps for the LP and LD signals, along with the various licensed facilities and CP's.

Wikipedia has a page, which notes that the flip from Russian to Pulse 87.7 will be Monday, Feb. 4.

I hope it must be the end of analog TV stations forever, I have a Sony Walkman with an AM/FM/Weather and TV band on it. I listened to a TV station in New York City that carries an audio from other TV stations as well. I hope that starting February of next year, all of the TV stations are no longer on my AM/FM/Weather/TV tuner radio. What happens after February, I tuned the TV audio band and it's going to be no more stations in New York City on my Walkman, because, a lot of people is switching from analog to digital.

I hope if many of the brands like Sony will soon to have an AM/FM/Weather/TV Walkman, but the TV band will soon to be digital compatible. If not after analog TV audio goes digital, I might as well watch it on my iPod. This is the new technology for what the new TV stations are going to change as of next year.

FM exist on all stations, but you can't hear any TV audio from that, but it's going to be just fine after switching to digital as of 2009. Get the results at

Just because a station has a construction permit doesn't mean they have to use it. Low power stations arent required to go digital yet.

I read on the Dentist board, however, that they've made a deal with Arbitron to be listed. Haven't seen it confirmed anywhere else, but that would be quite interesting to see.

The flip from Russian to Pulse 87.7 was supposed to debut today. Right now it is still a Russian format.

The website isn’t being maintained either. The home page announces “Coming January 2008. Stay Tuned!” It would take about two minutes to remove that from the website. The “Employment Opportunities” and “Media Kit” links don’t work either.

Funny thing about their website....they actually updated it a day or two ago. It didn't look too bad, and had a little more detail than the current site, though a lot of the links were still inactive. They were even talking about it over at the Dentist's board. Looks like they switched it back since then.

As far as the 2/4 start date, where did that info come from? Was it an official announcement from the station or just a date that began circulating around? There was no mention of it on their website even during the brief period that the updated version was online.

I learned about the February 4th flip date on Wikipedia.
"In February of 2008, the station will flip to a Rhythmic Top 40 format as "Pulse 87.7". Morning show duties will be handled by Star & Buc Wild, who will be starting February 4, 2008 (delayed from January 15 due to Star's liver surgery)."

I Called Mega Media today and asked when they're flipping and was told NEXT Monday.

Maybe they should update their site..still says January
