Top Philadelphia Radio Stories of 2005

Any opinions on the top local radio story of 2005? Certainly Howard Stern leaving WYSP is up there. The top rated local morning entertainment show for about 15 years leaves the air, leaving that #1 position up for grabs in 2006.
Also causing the impact of WYSP to change to all hot talk during the day (again) and the return of Barsky. The death of Y-100 is a big story, lesser but still notable is WPEN finally dropping music to compete against WIP. The advent of Praise 103.9 immediately pulling a decent audience. Ben pulling 95.7 out of the FM cellar. The brief run of Air America programs ends here. WXTU brings country its highest ratings ever in Philadelphia. WPST and The Hawk trade frequencies. What else happened worth noting or discussing further in 2005?

Preston and Steve move to WMMR and beat Stern in the latest trends.

KYW celebrates 40 years as all news, with many of those years at or near the top of the ratings.

At WDAS-FM, Carter and Sanborn reunite only to be replaced by a syndicated show.

Tom Joyner can't help WRNB eclipse WDAS-FM.

Lack of local, live hosts continues to permeate the market: John Tesh starts on Sunny, Ben 95.7 goes without jocks, Praise goes without jocks, DAS-FM goes from a local morning show to a syndicated one, YSP replaces Stern with an unproven out-of-market jock, PHT shortens and pushes back the time on air of its local evening host and reduces Sid Mark's Friday show by two hours to make room for syndicated Jay Severin, and even top-rated B-101 turns to syndication with Delilah at night.

In nearby Delaware, Allan Loudell jumps from WILM to WDEL, Rush jumps from DEL to ILM.

Hy Lit retires from terrestrial radio.

Chio leaves Q102. Who replaces him in 2006?

Sunny flips to Christmas earlier than usual.

Mike Missenelli returns to WIP.

Sportstalk 950 registers a meger 0.8 in the Fall Arbs.

The renaissance at WMMR, thanks to Preston and Steve.

The end of the legendary DJs on the radio, as Bill Webber, Ed Hurst,
and Hy Lit leave the airwaves.
