Once again, the Asian conditions were wonderful this morning. Neil Kazaross near Chicago had HLCA-972 and Yanbian-1206 for new countries on both. For me, I also got a new country! Let's gooooo...from 1400z (7am PT), 3-foot loop, G5, and about 34F outside at the RFI-free park...
1402z 850 KICY Nome, AK; HUGE signal over KOA with sign-on message, 'power of 50,000 watts as authorized by the Federal Communications Commission' and mailing address in Nome, into SRN news. Still amazed with this one. Recorded, will post soon.
1405z All NHK big guns, except 873-JOGB, doing well. Kumamoto 873 was only a carrier.
1407z 756 music under KXTG/KERR splatter. Likely CNR-1.
1408z 640 NPR Morning Edition mixing with KFI. 90% sure it's KYUK Bethel AK, but KFI was too strong for a 1400z ID.
1410z 639 CNR-1/China National Radio, Changyang (Beijing) CHINA; overtook KFI with male and female announcers in Chinese // to 49 meter shortwave, 6125 and 6175 khz. NEW COUNTRY!!! NEW #768, 400KW at 5,520 miles. Great to finally snag this one. Recording coming.
1418z (I think) 603 UNID with either Korean or Japanese female announcer, strong signal over 600/610 splatter and recorded about a minute of it. Suspect HLSA 'Happy FM' but could be JOOG in Japan, NHK-1 and only 5KW. Recorded.
1425z 765 (!!) with UNID Chinese. Weak signal but I could tell the language. There's a CNR5 in Fuzhou, almost 6,200 miles. I've never heard audio before on 765. Recorded.
1430z 648 (also !!) with UNID Asian music. Once again, I've never heard audio before on 648. Years ago the beacon on 648 was the Voice of Russia, but they went off earlier this decade. Perhaps this is a Chinese station?
1431z 657 Pyongyang Bangsong, N.K. with oddball female singer saluting the Kim family. Nice signal, recorded.
1432z 819 + 621 Loud hets almost in audio. First likely KCBS North Korea, second ???.
1440z 837 Orchestra music and female announcer, then back to music. Not parallel to NHK-1, so not JOQK, heard Friday. Maybe CNR-5, but there's a chance it's Harbin RGD too. Didn't record this one darn it. Left at 1445z satisfied but a little cold ;-)
