TRIBUNE WILL PULL ALL STATIONS & WGN AMERICA FROM DIRECTV IF NO DEAL BY SUNDAY

Re: TRIBUNE WILL PULL ALL STATIONS & WGN AMERICA FROM DIRECTV IF NO DEAL BY SUNDAY

Don't see the warning on the DirecTV's EPG. I'm tired of those 'retransmission consent' disputes, blame it on that stupid ex-politican John Danforth for this 20 years ago for this mess. If this happen, I won't get to see Til' Death (unfortunately none of my stations in the Greenville, SC market ain't carrying the sitcom in syndication :( ), Matlock, and In The Heat of The Night reruns.

Re: TRIBUNE WILL PULL ALL STATIONS & WGN AMERICA FROM DIRECTV IF NO DEAL BY SUNDAY

Sorry to hijack this a bit, but my gym in the city of Chicago, gets WGN America. I know they have satellite (not sure which one). How do they get WGN America if they're in Chicago?

Re: TRIBUNE WILL PULL ALL STATIONS & WGN AMERICA FROM DIRECTV IF NO DEAL BY SUNDAY

I don't think the national channel gets deleted from satellite lineups. They just add WGN-TV in the Chicago DMA.

Re: TRIBUNE WILL PULL ALL STATIONS & WGN AMERICA FROM DIRECTV IF NO DEAL BY SUNDAY

I don't think I've watched it for more than an hour or two since they cancelled Corner Gas.

Re: TRIBUNE WILL PULL ALL STATIONS & WGN AMERICA FROM DIRECTV IF NO DEAL BY SUNDAY

Is there a single program left on WGN America that can't be found on another cable channel or in local syndication? With DVRs and time shifting, its redundancy renders it a useless channel (unless you really want to see what the weather is like in Chicago and don't have internet access).

Re: TRIBUNE WILL PULL ALL STATIONS & WGN AMERICA FROM DIRECTV IF NO DEAL BY SUNDAY

The only reason why I watch WGN America these days is because of the WGN News at Noon and WGN News at 9.

Re: TRIBUNE WILL PULL ALL STATIONS & WGN AMERICA FROM DIRECTV IF NO DEAL BY SUNDAY

Well for Southern California it's an easy fix. Add XETV San Diego's CW to the LA market households and add KTTV FOX 11 LA to the San Diego market households. Or just get rabbit ears. I don't think local stations have as much of a leg to stand on in these disputes. See the Time Warner Cable Corpus Christi fiasco. People were watching the superbowl via rabbit ears because the NBC station there couldn't reach an agreement with TWC.

Re: TRIBUNE WILL PULL ALL STATIONS & WGN AMERICA FROM DIRECTV IF NO DEAL BY SUNDAY

I gave up on WGN America when they dropped Corner Gas and Out of Sight Retro Nights. My daughter watches AFV at times, but it could be dropped from my cable and I wouldn't miss it.

After My Network ran the "Monk" finale I continued to keep WGN's version on my Season Pass list and so far I have seen three episodes I didn't see on My Network for whatever reason. That doesn't mean My Network won't do them eventually, but I was so glad to get to watch these. I still enjoy the show.

"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" is my favorite show on WGN America right now. And I still watch just enough of "Bewitched" and "I Dream of Jeannie" to make sure I have seen the episode. I'm still waiting for the black and white "Bewitched".

Re: TRIBUNE WILL PULL ALL STATIONS & WGN AMERICA FROM DIRECTV IF NO DEAL BY SUNDAY

In New York City and Hartford, Connecticut it will mean the loss of METS baseball. Tribune's WPIX in NYC is the broadcast flagship of The METS and in Hartford WCCT-TV is the METS affiliate. In Hartford it also means the loss of American IDOL, NASCAR Racing, and Saturday Major League Baseball as Tribune also owns the FOX Affiliate.

And that's all on WGNtv.com and their iDevice apps, including the Morning News. Definitely an intelligent way to get around the FCC's SyndEx policy which requires WGN not share 'exclusive' segments. So besides Cubs and White Sox baseball, along with their terrible national Bulls schedule against creampuff teams which might as well be called All Garbage Time, All the Time, there's no compelling reason for WGNA to exist once Antenna TV clears near 90% of the country.

That's kind of an interesting comment. The reason I say that is because so far, Antenna TV, MeTV and other digital subchannel networks haven't been included on DirecTV(other then the affiliates of those networks are actual TV stations and not subchannels, like KVOS 12 in Bellingham, Washington, which is my neck of the woods).

As soon as they figure a way out to include the digital subchannel networks on satellite, then I would have no problem with WGN America being dumped from DirecTV and Dish Network. Partly because it would be replacing a channel with mostly crummy shows like WGNA with a channel with a bunch of good Classic TV shows.

Tribune Corp would therefore seem to have more to fear from disgruntled
Cubs and Sox ownership than from DirecTV, it seems.

Well, apparently you can cross "Bewitched" and "Jeannie" off that list. Before I ever got to see Samantha and Darrin in black and white. Before I ever got to see that one episode which was deleted from my TiVo before I finished watching. If I had known I would have used VHS to tape the show I actually watched while all this was happening.

Re: TRIBUNE WILL PULL ALL STATIONS & WGN AMERICA FROM DIRECTV IF NO DEAL BY SUNDAY

This looks like another peeing contest to put it mildly between the Dish and/or cable systems and a TV owners group where BOTH sides are equally wrong in letting things get to this point. Viewers should complain loudly to both sides.

Can't say as I'd really miss WGN America......with all those Funniest Videos.
And I hardly doubt many subscribers in Denver will miss KWGN 2 (Which Local Media only *manages* for Tribune) since the offerings there have degraded so immensely that THE ONLY thing worth watching is in the daytime anyway so.....

JMO.....

Cheers & 73 ;D

I think MeTV might beat them to THAT punch ;D
