WYAY-FM 106.7 in atlanta switched to True Oldies back in April and the ratings are GREAT! WGOG-FM needs to switch to the True Oldies Channel with local programming added!

carolinaradio said:Yes...you should put oldies on 1070. Seems to me that the AM sound would compliment the older-skewing satellite feed well. On top of the 1.2 mil I would suggest upgrading a lot of the equipment, as well as the facilities. I think that mobile home is almost 40 years, isn't it? Not sure what kind of shape it's in.
On a more serious note...I think someone said a while back that a lot of the engineering problems at 1070 had been worked on. Not sure if that has helped the signal much or not. Very directional pattern.

Between buying the station, attorneys and brokers costs, fixing up the mobile home, fixing up some of the engineering issues, promotions for the launch, staff salaries for a few months and utilities costs (phone, internet, power) until you really start making money... would probably total at least $2.5 million dollars.
Maybe GoodTimesGreatOldies should put up the dough if it's such a viable format.

somebody care to breakdown how many commercial spots are available to sell per hour and how many spots would have to be sold (at what? $5 a pop?) before he would start making money off a 2.5 million dollar oldies cash cow?
I am thinking most of the Oldies audience would be long dead before that would happen. Invest in a Sirius XM 'Roady' and listen to the Oldies channels on that. Tell all your friends.
carolinaradio said:great info, radioguy...I guess that is the main reason that 1070 has been satellite-fed entirely for so long and the equipment is not operated at full power. They have usually had only about 4-5 local advertisers at a time in recent years as satellite, IIRC. It didn't sound (audio wise) as bad last time it was on....but the signal isn't what is should be.
fwiw, here is a 'bird's eye' view of the facilities. You have to pan around a bit, then you can get a good view. That mobile home looks pretty rough. If you drag the map back far enough to the north, you can see the power lines that supposedly hinder the signal. Sad.
carolinaradio said:It's across from the library...click on bird's eye and you can pan around. looks pretty depressing.
Oh, I should have noted that from 2006 to 2007, 1070 WAS carrying an oldies format 24/7 by satellite.
