Tama never should have bought 1070. They've neglected it over the years because it's an AM and they don't have a cluster here, I guess. The oldies format was certainly better than that Musical Soul Food thing...I think they had classic country for a while too, since the blues thing.radioguybroadcasting said:carolinaradio said:It's across from the library...click on bird's eye and you can pan around. looks pretty depressing.
Oh, I should have noted that from 2006 to 2007, 1070 WAS carrying an oldies format 24/7 by satellite.
Yes, 1070 was carrying oldies.. but now, GoodTimesGreatOldies will come alogn and say Jones wasn't a good network or the music sucked. The format was there merely to fill the bandwith and airwaves, Tama's wanted to sell that place for over 2 years. It later picked up ABN's Party & Blues Network from Gulfport, I think.

When they had Russ Cassell, Jan Ming, Eric Rogers and Brother Bill Bill at one time, they were great and did some super ratings. In 1995, the station was sold and the format changed. In early 1996, WOLT/WOLI became Oldies 103 with the ABC Pure Gold Format from Texas. Go back and look at the old books, they were quite impressive for being mostly automated. When Entercom bought the station in 2000, they screwed with the music and the format. WOLT is a great Oldies station (when they aren`t playing other programming). However, WOLT`s signal doesn`t cover the Anderson area. WRIX 103 in Anderson sometimes plays the Jones Oldies Format at odd times. They should go all Oldies. They are using about 3 or four different Jones automated formats!! Thus, they build themselves as a "Variety" station with still a Morning Talk show and Evening News and Call in Sports Talk at Night. WGOG would be a great fit for the True Oldies Channel. They cover many areas that WOLT doesn`t. The Owner Art Sutton has been running the True Oldies Format on Oldies WOOF out of Wahalla. The True Oldies format has been doing great in Atlanta at the 100,000 watt WYAY-FM. I disagree with Mike Benson on the music. Most people still want the 1950`s-early 1970`s Oldies. This music is timeless and still sounds Great today. Alot of the 1980`s stuff sounds very dated and is already being played on other Upstate Outlets....

carolinaradio said:The only oldies station around here that was ever half decent and got OK ratings was 106.3, and we know that's not coming back at least while Entercom is at the helm.
You should be on the look out for stations up for sale and buy one and put Shannon's format on it. The 103s, 105.3, 1260, 1070 were all up for sale in the past few years. I heard his format a few years ago and he was the only DJ on there and it was sleepy, all voicetracked. Sounded like a disaster IMHO...imaging, music, everything. Not sure if that has changed....but Jones' Oldies Station (WOLS/Charlotte) or ABC's Classic Hits are much better.
Goodtimesandgreatoldies said:WOLS is growing their ratings. Oldies are have made a comeback across the country. WYAY-FM True Oldies 106.7 in Atlanta just had a great book. WGOG-FM 96.3 WOULD do alot better Oldies than Country. The automated Country format on there now is very similar to WSSL 100 and Kiss 99.9. Don`t forget WESC and WCON and WNGC come in good in this area too. The true Oldies Channel for WGOG just makes sense. I think that it is just a matter of time before either WRIX or WGOG flips to all oldies on the FM dial. The smart one will flip very soon.
Goodtimesandgreatoldies said:This area will support a good Oldies station if they are given one on FM. Areas around Anderson are just out of Reach of Oldies Outlets on FM. WRIX is a mess. That Jones Automated format is horrid (by many peoples opinions). They should switch to all Oldies. WGOG is playing mostly songs that are heard on WSSL and WESC. They would do better with an Oldies format.

I will say again if Art Sutton thought that oldies would work, he would have had it there a long time ago, but WGOG has been country for quite a few years now and it works. I listen to it every time I am in Rosman, NC because I can pick it up there like a local station and I get all of the weather and news that I need for that area and I really do like the satellite service that they use.

it seems like no matter what he say or how we explain it, GoodTimesGreatOldies won't listen, understand or grasp the idea.
