Trump executive order removes independence of FCC

The following was received on a blindness listserv I'm on. It includes the links below. Though I have them, I will try not to input my own views on these matters.

The originator of the email I've received says at the end to expect all actions at the FCC to grind to a halt.
 
I posted this in another thread. This has been an issue at the FCC since the Supreme Court's Chevron decision last year. The question has come up if the FCC can impose fines on pirates or broadcasters that break the rules.

From the Politico article linked above:

The theory was long considered fringe, and many mainstream legal scholars still believe it is illegal, given that Congress set the agencies up specifically to act independently, or semi-independently, from the president. These include the Federal Communications Commission, the Federal Trade Commission and the Securities and Exchange Commission, all of which enact regulations and can impose hefty fines on businesses that violate the rules.

The FCC's Nathan Simington has been dissenting on all FCC actions, pointing to the Chevron decision.

Then again, all of the recent investigations started by Carr basically promote the president's anti-media agenda.

But I imagine that means all license renewals must be cleared by the president.

I was searching for another thread that contained this information (the originals were released yesterday though I got the email this morning) but I couldn't find it. If this is posted elsewhere on the site, moderators, please close this thread--the issues are very controversial and while they include the FCC and broadcasting, they go way beyond that. thank you in advance.

There are many questions on the FCC's role in several of the investigations, including NPR, since they don't regulate NPR or PBS. But if it's up to the president to decide what the law is, I can see it becoming more of a weapon moving forward.
 
Given the recent stories on the FCC going after Audacy, NPR, PBS, CBS and NBC it seems like we were already there but we needed confirmation by the White House directly given the situation. However in another case the White House outright banned the Associated Press from covering Executive branch in the White House. When that happened AP continued their coverage in fact checking the White House including Elon Musk's role at Doge. This is why we keep seeing the Executive branch trying to consolidate power.
